Timberline's Jonathan Stewart bowls over Prosser defender Bud Sexton in the Blazers' 42-35 state quarterfinal win Saturday. On the play, Stewart landed on his feet and continued to run until being tackled by Prosser's Charlie Edwards.
It was Stewart's turn next, as the senior scored on breathtaking runs of 67 and 73 yards to help Timberline go into the break with a 28-21 lead.
"I think he's the best ever," Young said. "Once you watch him a few times, it's hard to believe that there's someone else with more speed, power, balance -- the whole package. He demonstrated that early on he was going to make some plays."
Stewart went into the break with 203 yards on only nine carries, this despite suffering from back spasms starting in the second quarter. He would finish the game with 293 yards on 20 attempts.
"I don't even know what it is -- my back just hurts," he said. "But I was just really trying to get out of my head that I was hurting so I could help my team out."
"I'm very proud of our team because every game, someone has been stepping up and playing a role," Stewart said. "That's what people are doing every game."
