Oregon RB Jonathan "Snoop" Stewart (official thread)

im such a hard hitting journalist:

Jeff (PA)
Hi Tom, I have read a lot of people comparing Jonathan Stewart to Maurice Clarett. How accurate is that? will it be even more accurate with a Stewart signing for OSU?

TOM LEMMING
I have Jonathan rated as the No. 1 back in the country and No. 3 player in the nation. He's a cross between Bo Jackson and Maurice Clarett. Bo is a little bit faster than Jonathan but he resembles Bo physically, running-wise and facially. Jonathan is looking at several schools and the Buckeyes have recently moved up to near the top of his list.

Here's the strange one, I took a look at who the Insiders had listed as the top RBs. Stewart was number one. OSU was not listed as one of his schools of interest. Recent articles had one "Stewart was awaiting Buckeye offer".

Has this always been an oversight by Insiders, or a recent update?

Edit: Rivals does show us on his list.

Insiders is always late in updating their database FWIW. If you had to pick one for more up to date info, I'd choose Rivals. However, its a moot point b/c Steve Helwagen of Bucknuts has done a couple stories on Stewart also so its not like they dont know there's something going on b/w Stewart and OSU.

why not?

is there a reason we wouldn't offer him or are we just taking our good old time? i mean, we do lose lydell ross and mo hall after this year so we have a couple of backs that we can offer.. and if test scores are borderline now, i'm sure he still has some time to work on it..

How about reading the thread--at least posts on the current page--before posting? NJ-Buckeye's post on this page say that, quote: "Results are available Oct 22." There's your answer.

By the way, welcome aboard.

I tell ya with this '05 recruiting class and some of the current O-linemen like Mitchum, Boone, Cordle, Bemoll and possibly Taz Wilson and Dan Doering,
Snoop Stewart would be like a kid in the candy store just chompin at the bit to get on the field. Thats gotta be one of the better young and upcoming Offensive lines out there. Any RB would love that front blocking for them ...

If you're Stewart, you've gotta love your shot at tOSU. Is there traditionally a higher profile position in the country than tailback at Ohio State? It's right there with being QB at Miami. Every sports fan and writer in the country knows your name.

One back returns next year, and a second is on scholarship. That's it. No clear #1 is established. The day you walk in the door, you're #3 at worst with an even shot at #2 or #1. You're big, fast and physical -- perfect for Big Ten play. The last two recruiting classes are full of big, nasty linemen to blow open holes for you. Anyone who watches CFB knows that Tressel will run his stud TB 30 carries a game, and if you can tote the ball, there are records to be broken and trophies to be won. How do you pass that up?

The game changes when this kid gets an offer. I firmly believe that we'll be the team to beat for him once that happens.

stewart is nuts if he goes anywhere other than ohio state.....next year at this time he is the 2005 version of peterson.....

stewart comes to columbus and he is the focal point of the offense immediately and for three full years...

not to mention the tutoring from a faith based coach such as jt.....

i know it is a long way from home, but when he goes to the sunday league he is not going to seattle....so the sooner he adjusts...the better....

But for Stewart, football isn't about that. It doesn't come close to family, God or friends in his order of importance. It's the way it should be -- a game.

"Football is fun," he said. "It's an opportunity to just go out there and lay it all on the field. And I get to be with my friends. When we win the game and we're all out there celebrating and chanting, we're just having fun."

The real beauty of this kid is when he gets to tOSU we won't have to worry about Jim Brown giving him advice!:roll2:
