Oregon Ducks (aka U of Nike)

G2_Ju-PWIAA45GV

Just sayin': I guess they found out. A Hoosier is someone that can kick the Duck's asses 30-20 in Eugene.

Oregon is not elite and really never have been. They've had some really good teams but they've always come up short of elite.
Great track program. Saw Fosbury jump there in 68. Everyone else was doing the western roll.

I don’t get the hate. Why not hate the showboats at USC? There’s a program that makes Michigan’s cheating look like a minor violation. Or Stanford, arrogance on steroids. Or Notre Dame who gets by not having to risk a ccg to get in the playoffs.

Me? I like the ducks except when we play them. I like Indiana, Vandy, and Northwestern the same way. Every program, including the Bucks, attracts assholes.

Not hating on Oregon football, they've been pretty amazing the last 20 years but they can't win the big one. I think you need to have at least 3-5 Natties before a program can call itself elite. I remember when I lived in Oregon as a kid for 4 years, both the Ducks and Beavers were the laughing stock of the Pac-10

It’s been nearly 2 decades since Cheaty Petey left there and they’ve been a complete afterthought since.

Oregon has been to the national title game twice since then and is spending heavy on the trail/portal while usc boosters are apathetic.
USC definite had some glory years and has bragging rights for overall accomplishments but other than the Cheatin' Pete years when they were kicking ass and taking names they've been a fair to middlin' program, nothing more or less.

One more thought. In order to be considered elite, one must have a pedigree. What I mean is you must have a tradition of winning that goes back many years and not be some Johnny Come Lately program that rises suddenly because of rich donors. There needs to be a consistency, a survival of the ups and downs, you need to be a team that fills your home stadium during bad years too, not just good years. Oregon isn't that. tOSU optimizes it.

Define elite. Is it simply only national championship winners? Because they've had multiple teams finish #2 in the country across multiple coaches
Since joining big boy football in 1964 they have a total of 10 conference championships. 0 national titles. 0-1 in the CFP. Gimmick ass uniforms. UNDER .600 winning percentage all time. They’re not a blue blood. Not elite.

Uppity mid-major trying to spend their way into grown up football.

Technically they're 1-2 in the CFP. Win against Florida State, two losses to Ohio State lol.

I would say that "elite" is much more of a thing specific to a season. For example, Ohio State has been elite for a couple of years, but not every year. Indiana has probably never ever been elite, but they may be elite this year.
Using my interpretation, I would say that Oregon has been elite at times in the past. But they aren't elite very often.
