Oregon at tOSU, Sep 11th, Noon ET on Fox

The differences between Ohio State and Oregon have always started with the line play.

Win the trenches, win the game.

Games against the SEC were the reason (fair or not) that Ohio State was thought of as slow for a long time.

Games against Ohio State ARE the reason (fair or not) that Oregon IS thought of as soft.

Oregon's Defense is a lot better than Minny and their offense is a lot worse so we'll probably be wondering what's wrong with the offense and thinking our defense might not be so bad come this time next week.

I haven't really seen it that way - Oregon's defense is pretty ho hum, especially w/o Kayvon. Even if he plays, he's not going to be anywhere near 100%....he can get shot up as much as he wants, that's not going to change the fact he has a (likely) high ankle sprain and his explosiveness is going to be drastically impacted.

Their offense is much more intriguing - they have talent and depth at RB, talent but not as much depth at WR. The issue is their QB can't throw for sh*t, but he can run. If they commit to using him and getting him 15 plus runs, our 2nd level has to be ready. That is the only matchup that concerns me is our ability to spy on Brown. You can 100% afford to dedicate one on him, especially if Brown and Banks are back, even if one is....Brown doesn't have the arm or accuracy to consistently make you pay for it. But - who are you going to put on him? Gant? Simon? Chambers? Gant makes the most sense, but I do wonder if they got Chambers some run instead of Pope for this very reason.

There really isn't much about Oregon that feels very Oregon like...I have no idea why they have the hype they do around them going into the season. Cristobal has had one good season in 3 tries and we've seen w/o their best player they struggle to beat a strong MWC team. I could see the spread easily bumping up around game time to around -16.5

Mario Cristobal, Rob Mullens react to Oregon’s game at Ohio State kicking off at 9 a.m. PT

Oregon’s season opener is two days away but its marquee nonconference opponent, No. 4 Ohio State, opens the season tonight and will have the benefit of 36 hours extra recovery and preparation time before next week’s showdown in Columbus.

The Buckeyes play at Minnesota Thursday night while the Ducks host Fresno State on Saturday (11 a.m. PT, Pac-12 Network).

Oregon coach Mario Cristobal declined comment regarding the unequal amount of preparation time for the Week 2 matchup.

Compounding the matter is next week’s game at Ohio Stadium kicks off at Noon Eastern and 9 a.m. Pacific, a point of great frustration to Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens, even as the payout to UO from Ohio State increased to $3.5 million.

Cristobal wasn’t thrilled about the game time but doesn’t see it as an issue.

“It’s a big thing if you make it a big thing,” Cristobal said. “We practice at 8:45 a.m. When we get to that game we’ll deal with it. We have a plan for all time slots.

“I don’t think it has to be a thing. I think that anytime you coach you want to look for every advantage you can get. I don’t look at it as a disadvantage. I’m really so not focused on that at all.”

Watching the Oregon - Fresno game now. Oregon DB's aren't anything to write home about. Kayvon has a very good first step, but he's only about 250ish.

Would love to dial up that weakside zone and run right at him should he play.
Yeah their DBs for sure aren't what they were 2 years ago and the same goes for their OL as well.

Anyone have insight with their OL? I know their two LBS are really good but with 5 providing a pass rush what can they really do to stop us? They're going to have to score 40 to have a shot and I don't see that happening.

Well I guess being charged for shooting people multiple times with air rifles or something doesn't earn an indefinite suspension. Their two DBs are back this week lol...

Their starting LB is out and their defensive end is day to day which it'd shock me if he plays also. So missing 2 of their starting front 7 isn't exactly great when going against our offensive line.

Mario Cristobal:
  • Oregon star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux‘s status for this week’s game is “day-to-day” after he sprained his ankle on Saturday. Cristobal said Thibodeaux is improving but that the Ducks would have a better idea of whether he'll be able to play against Ohio State on Tuesday or Wednesday.
  • Is it possible for Thibodeaux to play without practicing this week? "If a guy can't practice I don't think it's in his best interest or the team's interest to put a guy out there that can't rep," Cristobal says.
  • Defensive backs DJ James and Jamal Hill will be available to play against Ohio State. They were suspended for Oregon's season opener after they were charged with shooting people with an Airsoft gun in August.
  • Dru Mathis, a starting linebacker for the Ducks, will be out for the Ohio State game with a leg injury.
  • On Ohio State's big play ability, Cristobal says "they're a great offense, a great football team with elite talent." Said it all starts up front with the Buckeyes' offensive line.
  • “Ohio State's ability to make big plays is a complete reflection of how precise they are in what they do. They're very well-coached. They know what to do, how to do it, why they're doing it that way. And they attack you. They're aggressive.”
  • “Nothing but our best is going to be good enough” to beat Ohio State, Cristobal said.
  • “If you're a real competitor, you always want to test yourself against the very best, and Ohio State's an elite program.”
  • Cristobal said Oregon “really wanted” C.J. Stroud as a recruit. “He can make every throw.” Cristobal also described Stroud as “really smart” and said the Ducks were impressed with his poise, accuracy, ability to improvise and ability to make plays with both his arm and his feet.

they had an early line opening last week at -9 then it went up to 11.5 by Friday. It opened for the week at -13 at a lot of other books and has now moved to -14/-14.5 in the majority of books. I'm going to play it again this week for the same $200 that I won this week and probably would take it up to 17. They wont score early and often enough and banged up Defense of any kind does not want to see this Buckeye Offense.
