Game Thread Oregon at tOSU, Sat. Nov. 7th, 3:30 pm ET, CBS

…

So what are the paths to a turn around? …

Really good post and I have nothing to add to most of it.

As for your question though:

One path forward is to lean HEAVILY on Fahey’s legs.

Is it the right thing to do?

Who knows. I don’t pretend to be an X’s and O’s expert. All I know is that it stresses defenses in a different way and that appears to be something the Buckeyes need.

It is also something that the coaches are very unlikely to try so… whatever

JFC. Why don't you all just close BP down until after the bowl games all end? :roll1:

While we did lose at USC by 12 points, after USC's first two drives we played them virtually dead-even for the rest of the game (16 to 15, and that was only because we went for the two-point conversion after our TD). In fact, statistically, we outgained them by over 100 yards for the game (464-338). Failing to push the ball in when we were in the red zone, and a bunch of dumb penalties (11 of them), were the killers. We had a true freshman playing his first game as the starter--in the rain--and he still ended up with 260 yards passing.

We have had trouble with USC since the Rose Bowl game of 1974, and are 1-9 against them (including yesterday's loss)...there is no team anywhere against whom we have had a worse record. As bad as we played at times, and as good as they played overall (especially Maiava), a 12-point defeat isn't nearly as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Am I disappointed? Damn straight. But, you best bet your ass I'll be watching us play and pulling hard for us against Oregon Saturday...

Wow

Honestly... this doesn't seem to apply to this thread to me... at all

Where is all the doom and gloom you seem to be seeing?

As usual, I cited a bunch of numerical facts in the most verbose way possible. Numerical facts are not doom and gloom. In fact, my conclusion was that the Buckeyes would probably be fine and that part of the problem was just an aberration that has no effect going forward anyway and that another big part was the absence of Timmons, who we are getting back.

Frankly, I think this board is taking this loss better than most. Most of the guys who are already writing off the season haven't posted much since the game ended and may have changed their tune by now.

I don't think Mili was necessarily talking to you.

But there was a LOT of doom and gloom in this thread around 10PM last night.

One thing I was encouraged about in the loss was our running game. 200+ yards was not only impressive, but the way we got it. It was the hardest I've seen BO run. And it wasn't even close. Isaiah ran hard as well. And we had some explosive runs as well. We'll need that the rest of the way.
Oregon is going to be a challenge, for sure. But we knew that before the season started, didn't we? We knew that there was a good chance that in our last six games it wouldn't be a surprise if we lose one. Well, that one was USC. It happened. Let's get over it and get behind our team.
This weeks game is at home. Let's be loud and proud. IMHO, we hurt ourselves more than USC beat us. Yes, they deserved to win. But we self-destructed. No doubt about it.

We weren’t playing the 74 Trojans the team means crap. Maybe the west coast trip but that’s just excuse making.

Oregons explosive athletes on offense are a reason to be concerned. Patricia HAS TO BLITZ RAIOLA. if they don't figure out ways to get him uncomfortable, If Patricia sits in a 3 man soft shell most of the night again it's going to get ugly for the D. We can't be getting in a track meet with our offense right now.

Bottom line, and most important, it's they still have everything in front of them and all the preseason goals are still reachable. They will have to lock shit up and have a come to Jesus but it's still all there.

JT Barrett lost his first game badly, at home, to Virginia Tech. It is still reachable.

The more I look into numbers, this might end up the kind of game where both defenses just dominate the other offense.

The problems as I see them for the Fahey version of OSU offense in this game:
- Oregon defense is good at denying the pass but with coverage and havoc in the back 7, not crazy pressure or havoc up front.
-That means they may likely be a worse match up for a young Fahey because they won't make it simple and they could really confuse him pre snap or worse yet- take away his first read and make him beat them by showing he can get to his 2nd, 3rd read consistently.

The upside for the Fahey led offense- he could be too inexperienced to get confused and just throw it to #4 no matter what.

The Oregon offense is nothing special so I could see a rock fight but I can also logically see a problem with that: field position, explosives and red zone become even more proportionately impactful in a rock fight. We are at a disadvantage on 2 of those 3 thanks to our not-so-special teams

They have to come east and OSU won't look as bad as it did Saturday night again so it isn't hopeless but it sure as shit isn't going to be easy. They all smell blood now.

I know it was Northwestern but Oregon seemed to finally pick up some momentum for the first time this year in that 2nd half against them. Of course right before they play us as how it always seems to go with opponents we get their best no matter how crappy theyve looked previously

If we are going to run the QB a lot , which I think is the best way forward BTW, then TSC needs to be starting. Fahey can prove me wrong, but I just don't see enough God-given talent in him to be the starting QB for THE Ohio State University. The Bobcats or Zipps? Sure. But not at OSU.
