open letter to my CP critic

USCemper

The bicycle thief
I have just received a curt "dont be a pussy" on my UserCP regarding my last post on the thread "Mike Williams announced his intention of returning to USC".

Naturally, my critic did not identify himself.

Quite honestly, I don't understand what was said in that post to elicit such a harsh castigation. All I did was express my opinion about this matter in a mature and coherent manner, at least I thought.

I would have preferred if you had the decency to identify yourself and explain to me the reasons that induced you to address me as a "pussy", possibly in the open forum and in front of everybody.

After all, aren't we all here for the purpose to share opinions and debate each other openly?

Tibor:

It is much easier for you to digest insults because everybody on this board has accepted you for the flaming and irresponsible idiot which very post you author clearly indicates.

It is a testament to the democratic principles and inclusiveness of BuckeyePlanet that a mental troglodyte and intellectual fart like you is still allowed to post his acerbic drivel and offensive perspectives on this board.

An insult from a USC fan...has Tibor ever been paid a higher compliment?

A possible future upgrade to the reputation commenting system could be a built-in option to identify yourself when you make a comment. That would allow the system to give full credit (for either a give or a take of reputation points), and only partial credit when identity isn't given.

Meaning, let's say you're able to +30/-30 when you give or take reputation (it's not a fixed number, there are a lot of variables that go into how many points you can swing someone). In my system, you give two people reputation.

For User A, you leave a positive comment and opt to not identify yourself. The system leaves you anonymous, but only awards +10 after a 2/3rds anonymity penalty.

For User B, you leave a negative comment, and choose to identify yourself. You hit them with -33, and your name is attached to it.

There are lots of ways to clean the system up, and in time we will. In the meantime, I'll recommend to everyone again that they post responsibly when they do so anonymously (I can see who posts what, as can the other admins and mods), and suggest that people "sign" their comments when they see fit.

There *is* value in being able to post anonymous reputation comments. You're going to get more honest feedback that way, and since you're the only one (outside of the admins and mods, who have to really go out of their way to access it) that can read the feedback, it's worth something.

Obviously you are going to get the occassional tool who just wants to take a shot and run.

Blow it off. And if it's way *way* out of line, contact myself or one of the other admins and mods.

BP will constantly try to evolve and improve.
