I think this is a good idea.

You know, if we work at it, and lobby our legislators to no end, we may - just may - be able to make fun illegal. You know we could have sting operations at Cedar Point and Wyandot Lake. And if we can find an officer brave enough to go undercover for the job, we just might be able to infiltrate the playgrounds (specifically the monkey bars). We could have a Vice Unit scope out sporting events and take down anyone seen clapping or otherwise cheering. Uh oh, I'm smiling just at the thought.

My niece was killed by a drunk driver. Do I want to ban alcohol or bars? Of coarse not. But, if you get pulled over you have a problem.
In New Mexico they attach a Breathalyzer to your ignition after one DUI!
And you have to pay for it!

I don't have a problem with the breathalyzer thing after you already exhibit that you drink and drive...

Although, having alcohol on your breath does not mean you're drunk. Mayeb you just used some mouthwash...

"Sorry boss, I'll be late... tried to kill some plaque, car won't start."

And, I'm sorry about your niece.

They covered this on the NBC morning program - absolutely stupid as far as I am concerned. Type of thing that'll drive a man to drink. They had the captain in charge of the arresting officers on camera speaking to one of the patrons of a hotel bar - who was indeed staying in the hotel - during her arrest, and her defense of actually being a guest in the hotel, which to my mind seemed quite logical, was dismissed by the officious over-weight asshole in charge of the "sting." He derided her current condition as a danger to others. Funny thing was she was speaking in well articulated sentences, he came off as a complete flaming idiot.

So to answer exhawg - it is true, they have been nabbing patrons of the hotel (not just the hotel bar) right of their stools. How difficult would it have been to check that she was registered for crying out loud? You cannot charge to a room for instance, without being registered.

We ought to have a fucking law against the police and other do-gooders with a high moral or religious bent, being overly righteous , nibby, intrusive and over-stepping official bounds to get into the middle of our private lives.

Oh hell, I forgot, that law was already passed - over two hundred years ago. Wonder if it is still in effect. :tongue2:

The Taliban already tried this approach in Afghanistan. The only appropriate way to show emotion during a rarely permitted sporting event was to praise Allah.

This guy I know, had to blow into a Breathalyzer to start his car. It was his second DUI offense. But, it doesn't stop him from driving.

Texas halts arrests of drunks in bars

A controversial Texas program to send undercover agents into bars to arrest drunks has been halted after a firestorm of protest from the public.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has "temporarily suspended" what it called "Operation Last Call" even though it still believes it was worthwhile, commission spokeswoman Carolyn Beck said on Thursday.
"We understand that everything has room for improvement, this included," she said.
She said most of those arrested in the sting operations had been "dangerously drunk" and might have tried to drive if TABC agents had not busted them.
The TABC has launched an internal investigation of Operation Last Call and a Texas Legislature committee will hold hearings on the program on Monday.
The TABC announced the program in late August but it received little attention at the time.
But recent media reports that drunks were being arrested in bars provoked both ridicule and anger around the world and, perhaps more importantly, complaints from hotels, restaurants and bars in Texas who said it could hurt business.
The program drew support from groups such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
The Houston Chronicle found that 1,740 people across the state had been arrested for public intoxication in Operation Last Call.
