Former Ohio State Fencer Eleanor Harvey Wins Olympic Bronze Medal in Women’s Foil

148063_h.jpg

Ohio State has two Olympic medalists in two days.

Former Ohio State fencer Eleanor Harvey became the second Buckeye to win a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics as she defeated Italy’s Alice Volpi, 15-12, in the bronze medal match in the women’s foil.

Harvey finished third in the competition behind only the American duo of Lauren Scruggs and Lee Kiefer, who advanced to the gold medal match, where Kiefer defeated Scruggs to win gold.

The former Buckeye, who competed for Ohio State from 2013-17, made history for Team Canada by becoming the first-ever Canadian fencer to win an Olympic medal.

Simone Biles, USA women win gold medal in team final

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team had framed it a redemption tour. But in the end, it was more of a clinic, a showcase – a dominant show of twisting and acrobatic force.

Led by the incomparable Simone Biles, the Americans coasted to yet another Olympic gold medal Tuesday night at Bercy Arena, finishing atop the podium for the third time in the four most recent trips to the Summer Games. They finished nearly six points ahead of the silver medal winners Italy, with Brazil grabbing bronze. It was never really close.

Simone Biles and the U.S. women's gymnastics team winning gold in the team final gives Biles more Olympic medals than any other American gymnast. She has eight Olympics medals in three Games, breaking the tie she had with Shannon Miller. Biles already held the record for most golds by an American gymnast, having won four at the Rio Olympics. She also a silver and two bronzes from Rio and Tokyo.

U.S. men beat Guinea to reach Olympic quarterfinals

90

Kevin Paredes scored two goals as the United States advanced to the quarterfinals of the Olympic men's soccer tournament for the first time since Sydney 2000 by beating Guinea 3-0 on Tuesday.

Victory in Saint-Etienne ended a 24-year wait for the U.S. to reach the knockout phase and it will play Morocco in the quarterfinals in Paris on Friday.

U.S. men's soccer march to Olympic medal reviving weary fans

Now, are most players on this team raw? Of course. And are the Olympics on the same level as the Copa América? Clearly not. This is a mostly under-23 tournament on the men's side with less significance than the top-tier international events.

But it is still the Olympics. These are still meaningful games being played. And after beating Guinea 3-0, the Americans are into the quarterfinals as they chase an Olympic medal -- something the U.S. men haven't ever accomplished in the modern era. Say what you will, but that is still a piece of history that would give American fans a reason to be excited and joyful -- two emotions that have been difficult to come by recently.

Who is revived? USA men’s soccer will always be a joke. Our country’s best male athletes simply do not play this game. Football, Basketball, individual sports (golf, tennis, track, etc..) and then Baseball have always been the pecking order in some order or another. Soccer is way down the list for boys here and I’m ok with it.

Men's soccer is hardly a joke. US team is consistently in the top 20 in the world. They are only a joke to dumb US fans who think they should win world cups. Kind of like Kentucky football fans who want to fire Stoops for not beating Georgia. :roll1:

French pole vaulter video: Anthony Ammirati dislodges bar with penis, costing him medal opportunity at 2024 Olympics

That's right — Ammirati missed out on a medal chance because his penis struck the bar. No part of an athlete can strike the bar in order for it to be a successful attempt. Since he failed, he just missed the cut for the top-10, placing 12th in the heats.

Turns out, sometimes size does matter.
