Olympic Hockey Gold Medal

I don't know if I want to watch hockey and having to listen to Mr. Bitter, Pierre and Emrick....

Just thinking about it, I wonder if Pierre's love affair with Cindy is going to make the US/Canada game unlistenable....

Looked pretty clear that the puck crossed the line to me (in the Russa/Czech game). They didn't even talk about that. They were too busy talking about how Markov touched the puck with his hand, which is a valid point.

But the puck crossed the line! I don't think they whistled the play dead until after that.

Wish they'd show the full replay again.

Sweden's in the middle of a 5-minute power play against Finland early in the 3rd period. They're up 3-0.

As mentioned by scott91575 in another thread, if Sweden wins by 6 goals (or if they score at least 8 and win by 5) they get the #1 seed. Otherwise the USA will get it, which will give them a favorable draw.

A little more on the draw. If the US is the 1 seed, they'll play the winner of Belarus and Switzerland. If they're 2, they play the winner of Norway and Slovakia.

I want no part of Slovakia. Halak looks excellent right now, and they have some real talent on their top lines. Decent defense too. They've looked good to me, despite their record.

If the US gets the #1 seed the other side of the draw will be brutal. Russia, Canada, and Sweden (plus the Slovaks are no slouches).

Looks good for the USA to get that #1 seed.

Still 3-0 Sweden, with only 2 minutes left in the game. As long as the Swedes don't get 3 goals in the last 2 minutes, it's USA #1 and Sweden #2.

Edit: 3-0, final.

The USA won't have to play either Canada or Russia until a potential Gold Medal game.

That's gonna do it. USA the #1 seed. Will play the winner of Belarus/Switzerland. If they advance, it will be Finland/Czechs/Latvia. No easier draw out there.

Canada and Russia are pissed at themselves right now. They will meet in the quarters.

Top 4 seeds get byes in the first round. Winners of each half (single elimination) will face off for the Gold Medal.

Top half
Switzerland(8) vs Belarus (9); winner plays USA (1), (Swiss-Belarus game is Tuesday, USA plays the winner Wednesday at 3 Eastern)

Czech Rep (5) vs Latvia (12); winner plays Finland (4)

Bottom half
Canada (6) vs Germany (11); winner plays Russia (3)

Slovakia (7) plays Norway (10); winner plays Sweden (2)

Amazing that Canada vs. Russia isn't even going to be for a medal.

I'd imagine that Canada's talent alone will be enough to take care of Germany. Although Germany's goalie (Greiss) has looked excellent from what I've seen.

To be the #1 seed (which would be huge since it's a much easier draw) the US needs Sweden/Finland to go to OT or for Sweden to win by 5 goals or less. Right now Sweden is up 1-0 at the end of 1.

The amazing part is Canada and Russia will meet in the quarterfinals (assuming Canada beats Germany). One of them will not medal.

As for the #1 seed, it's important since the #1 seed will play the Switzerland/Belarus winner in the quarters. By far the easiest of the quarterfinal match ups. Plus no Russia, Canada, or Sweden in that side of the draw if the US is the #1 seed.
Sweden beat Finland 2-0 which clinched the #1 seed for the US. They will play the winner of Switzerland/Belarus on Wednesday.

The Canadians play Germany tomorrow and if (when) they win they will play Russia on Wednesday. The US and Canada are on opposite sides of the bracket so if they meet up again it will be in either the gold or bronze medal game.
