OL Trey Leroux (Official Thread)

Barely got to learn anything about Trey before he committed, but you gotta love it when the Ohio kid jumps on the offer like that. What is obviously else to love is a 6'8 OT with athleticism like that. Very interested to see if he climbs in the rankings, he was only holding MAC-level offers when he was offered by OSU. In any event, welcome aboard Trey! #specialpowers

Need a huge amount of depth, especially at OT. When you can fill that depth with an athletic 6’8” guy from Ohio, you take that gamble. We already have a higher rated OT, why not take another in state guy who could eventually be just as good?

Agreed. When you need as many as 6 guys in a position group in one class you are going to have to take some "reaches." You aren't going to get 6 top 100 guys at one position. He seems like a reasonable bet with his physical tools to at least be a contributor.

Ohio talent staying in Ohio is always good I feel, hate having Ohio players leave and then turn out amazing. We have had 3* in the past who have been amazing players, and we have had 5* that do nothing. Rankings and ratings do matter as they do show talent but I am willing to bet on our coaches to get the best out of the players they recruit

There is a poster on Bucknuts close to the Norwalk program that has some interesting info. They say that Leroux has been given a set of goals he needs to achieve. Weight loss and conditioning need to be at a satisfactory level or Day will have him Greyshirt. He has to prove he wants to be a Buckeye. He came to camp over weight and his family was unhappy. The coaches were upfront with him and set the standard. If he does not reach these goals he will not enroll early and have to pay his first semester on his own dime as a Greyshirt. Take it for what it's worth.

Family was unhappy at Coach Day for setting those conditions or unhappy at Trey for showing up overweight?

I think that this is true for every recruit, to some extent. A verbal commitment doesn't mean that the process is over, for either side. The staff will definitely continue to monitor each recruit's on-field performance, academics, and conduct to make sure that he maintains a certain standard in all areas. That being said, Leroux might be under additional scrutiny because he is viewed as more of a "project" than most Ohio State recruits.

Yes but in this case it was clear the recruit wasn't handling their business. It was in June and the early enrollment period is December so it magnified the issue. There could be a late bloomer we can snag or an elite that opens up his recruitment because of a HC change. This source knows the program and family. I found it interesting.
