OL Patrick Elflein (National Champion, 2017 PFWA All-Rookie Team)

I have been saying for a while I think we will be very very good next year. I feel like we will replace the talent leaving with new talent, we will reload not rebuild as the cliche goes. The main concern is the play calling and QB coaching in my mind. If that is fixed, we will be in the playoffs next year. Thanks to Pat for helping the run next year.

We will be solid through the middle... Elflein, Price, and Knox or Burrell. We will be ok

IMO this sets us up to be better in 3 spots automatically out of the 5. Price and Elflein are obviously better than themselves but I think Prince will be better for us at RT.

Huge piece to stick around. We needed him

Prince was mentioned by Meyer in his press conference today. I take that as a good sign.

Huge piece. As I mentioned in Billy Price's thread, I wonder if the staff has considered moving Price back to DT. This would have been very tough to do without Pat coming back as leadership would be nill but with Pat returning as a center and being the senior leader of the line it is a possibility. Personally I would be intrigued by:

Jones-Lisle-Elflein-Knox-Prince

Billy the Brute as a Joel Hale type plugger (with more upside) on the D Line? I'd like to see that too and would be a totally unselfish move that might be a huge boost for that side.

The point is that Pat coming back provides a lot of options and leadership that the '16 team really needs. And you can go ahead and write his name as a captain in ink.

I agree... call me a Homer but I'd be shocked if there was a big drop off next year. IMO it'll be at least at 2014 levels which I'm pretty sure all of us can live with.

We have three games next year we HAVE to win In order of importance 1. MSU 2. Scum and 3. Oklahoma

It doesn't matter how good the offensive line is if the play calling and offensive identity is still a mess.

A great OL will be wasted if we see a repeat of this season and a mediocre OL will be masked if we get a coherent system in place with a coordinator who knows what he's doing.

That could be true. Warriner will up in the booth with Beck again for the ND game. If that works out then fine, but I think he will be in control of having a chance to work his magic on teaching another grade of offensive lineman. I think urban will keep Beck around for at least during spring ball. By then we will know if we have a good coherent system that will be to Urbans liking or not. We just have to give it some time to come together.

Having two offensive coordinators in the booth makes one of them completely unnecessary.

To get back on track, I think they slide Elflein down to center. Regardless, the nice thing about year after year of stellar recruiting is there are planting of options to choose from.

If Beck is still here during the Spring, then he's not getting fired. I would imagine it would be all but impossible to find a replacement that late.
