i'm sorry that you have issues with that.

Cooper was never a Buckeye. He was employed by Ohio State, but was never a Buckeye.

I agree with Mili. Cooper still doesn't know what it means to be a Buckeye. Next, are you folks gonna tell me that Karen (A)holebrook (cunt) is a Buckeye as well, just because of her current position? I'll admit that recruiting was his greatest strength, but that was more Conley than him. Half of his players were thugs, as well, and not just off the field. He lost over 75% of every single big game his team played in. His record against miSHITgan speaks for itself - how can you remain in your position, and remain happy, with that kind of a performance against scUM? Woody wouldn't even buy a tank of gas in TSUN, which speaks volumes about how intense that rivalry is. Yet Coop could go years on end without a victory, usually losing when scUM was a vast underdog, and still remain smiling. Unbelievable. Especially considering the talent he had on his teams....there's no excuse for that. He never fully grasped the tradition of excellence with which most of us here were raised with. I don't consider him a Buckeye, and never will.

one question...why in the hell are we posting about John Cooper? I would like to forget the majority of his years here at OSU, yes there was some great moments, but their was far to many below average moments in big games for me to want to stroll down memory lane....

He was a good coach and the fact is he is second in wins, but he never understood what it meant to beat SCUM and he didnt get it done....

I think Coop is a Buckeye because he "has" to be. Not because he wants to be. It shows in how he ran the program. He didn't sell people on the tradition of Ohio State, he didn't even introduce the players to it. Tradition ran in the background, without his interference.

I think, because he was a coach here, he "has" to be a Buckeye. I just don't think he ever cared to be.

But that's my opinion.. and like I said before, he'll always be Coach Cooper, because without him..... well we wouldn't have had what we did.

I agree. Maybe he didn't/doesn't bleed Scarlet & Grey, but not everyone can be Chris Spielman. But I think comparing him to Presidet Karen is a bit much.

He's not a particular favorite of mine, but I definitely consider him a Buckeye, and I'm going to guess that Eddie George, Bobby Hoying, Orlando Pace, Joe Germaine, and several other of our beloved boys would too. (o.k., maybe not Robert Smith, but you know what I mean...:) )

Funny Cooper side story:

I worked in the towers for the food court that served the football and basketball teams their training table meals (supper) at the time ('90/91').

Cooper wasn't happy about the size of the staeks they were getting served (boy those fellas could go through some food) and asked me to get the manager. The manager told Coach that the food service was switching to 10 oz steaks, which made Cooper feel a little better at first because he thought the manager meant they were odering bigger steaks, but he soon found out that they were being served 12 oz steaks (which Coop already thought were too small), but they were actually going to even get smaller next order. He threw a semi fit about it and told my manager he was checking into finding a new service for the team. (EDIT: I guess what made this a bit "funny" to me was how much food these guys ate, wasted, could go back for as much as they'd like...what did he want, the ole 96er?)

This didn't leave me with the best impression of Coach Cooper, but like I said in my first post on the topic: I think of him as a better than average recruiter, average coach, and poor "big game coach". But I consider him a Buckeye none the less.

Sorry for all the wind...just me reliving some college memories. :osu:

I'm at a loss. Define "Buckeye" for me. To me, it is someone that cares about the University, it's tradition, it's glory, and it's success. Obviously this isn't anywhere near a comprehensive definition, but can someone explain to me which of these Cooper cared about? Or better yet, explain to me the difference between him and the cunt (holebrook)?

Cooper's not a Buckeye? On what grounds? That he wasnt born in Ohio? I guess Im not then either, eventhough I have three friggin degrees from the school. Maybe because he didnt beat UM as much as you would have liked? His record against UM is terrible, but I assure you no one wanted to beat them more than he did.

Futher, if he's not a Buckeye, then please explain why his permanent residence is still in Columbus?

Cooper is has been and still is a Buckeye.

"Define "Buckeye"

A small nut that falls from a tree. It is called a buckeye because it resembles the eye of a small deer.

A delicious chocolate ball that has peanut butter inside. Yum

Someone that coaches at a school for umpteen years, and doesn't leave until he is fired. Still lives in the city of the school, and still talks with players.
His child went to school there, and loved it.

What isn't a buckeye, is someone whom types on a keyboard thinking they have the supreme authority to say whom is, and who isn't a buckeye.

So then neither one of us is a Buckeye, because you say somebody is, and I say he's not...:slappy:

We can agree to disagree on this. I think the tradition of OSU thrives today in spite of Cooper, not because of him. I don't have any problem with calling him coach, but every time I think of the shit his players pulled, like dancing at midfield in Camp Randall, or the late night fiasco before his final bowl game, it makes me sick. Cooper did absolutely nothing for this program except bring in a shitload of talent....and they were able to win most of their games because of that talent, not because of Cooper. Man, I need to stop thinking about him. The whole "deer in the headlights" look he got every time we played scUM....oy vay.

That is a HUGE exception bringing in a shitload of talent. I agree that the teams were able to win many games because of the talent, not because of Cooper; and this may be illustrated even more by the 2002 NC that JT brought us with mainly Cooper's players. We will never know for sure if Coop would have won the NC in 2002, but his track record indicates that he probably would not have.
