OL Marcus Hall (The Bird Man of Ann Arbor)

Redshirt Could Benefit Hall, OSU Down the Road
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS ? Make no mistake about it, the Buckeyes could use Marcus Hall in 2010.

They are rated No. 2 in the country in nearly every preseason poll and having a 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive tackle with a nine games under his belt is exactly the kind of depth elite college football teams need in order to make it all the way to the BCS National Title game.

Unfortunately for Jim Tressel and the Ohio State coaching staff, that?s no longer an option. After weeks of speculation, the university officially announced that the sophomore out of Cleveland Glenville would take a redshirt for the upcoming season because of academic issues.

?It?s disappointing, but it is what it is,? Tressel said after Saturday?s jersey scrimmage.

?Any time you have somebody in your two-deep that you won?t have?it?s like losing (linebacker) Andrew Sweat last year?it hurts you.?

Redshirt year could benefit Hall, Buckeyes.

Props to Marcus for contributing to the team and keeping his focus, well done.

"Sophomore tackle Marcus Hall, who is taking a redshirt season while he gets his academic side in order, stepped up to be named offensive scout team player of the week while freshman defensive end David Durham took the defensive honor and Chris Maxwell the special teams award."

I'm really looking forward to Hall getting back on the field in 2011. I think he is the favorite at LT during Adams suspension. His return will be a huge boost for the offensive line.

It wil be interesting to see the battle between him and Norwell for that LT spot. If he doesnt win that he will definitely start at guard.

When we evaluate the recruiting hall for 2011 we must also consider consider the return of all of our Juniors, Marcus Hall, Tyler Moeller, and the likely return of Keith Wells.

Not so bad.

New Blood: Marcus Hall
By Jason - 08 May 2011

Marcus Hall is looking to bounce back from a redshirt season in 2010.Welcome back.

Ohio State will need to replace 10 starters this year and that's not including the five contributors that will be out for the first five games of the season. As such, we'll be profiling several of the potential new contributors over the coming weeks. Previously: Ken Guiton.
Marcus hall POS # HT/WT YEAR HOMETOWN
OT 79 6-5/315 Sophomore (RS) Cleveland

As a standout for Ted Ginn Sr's Glenville Tarblooders, Marcus Hall drew the attention of scouting services (and Buckeye fans) after being named All-Senate League as a sophomore. In what may have been an even bigger honor, he earned his own Buckeye Planet thread that very year, becoming the rare soph to show up on the site.

Interesting thing about Hall was that he actually got the start against MSU on Saturday. He had started the first two games of the season at RG with Linsley suspended, but I believe Linsley supplanted him in the next two games, only to have Hall start in the fifth game against MSU.

Now that Hall's suspended for the sixth game, hopefully Linsley will get back to what won him the starting job in weeks three and four.

I can't keep track of all these guys. Adams was suspended last year and this year. Hall last year and this year. Linsley suspended this year. Then you had runningback roulette earlier in the year starting off with Smith and Hyde. Then Smith Hyde Berry Hall, Then Hyde Berry Hall. Now look at WR. Posey out. Philly brown out. Reed will be out. Who is left, 3 freshman and a sophmore.

On top of all this mess, you have our main passrusher getting injured in a 42-0 blowout. It just isn't in the cards for us this year.

Perhabs wrong thread.... I think BB73 thinks this situation was known by the coaches and NCAA during their meeting in August. If that was the case why did Hall play against MSU? If he is now suspended wouldn't he have been suspended earlier in the year?

situation of no show/overpaid job was known. Just not details and who all was involved. If they knew this in August, it would have been included. It was "still under investigation".

It's a good question. The letter detailing the amount of hours worked was sent to a lawyer in June, so tOSU (and presumably the NCAA) knew of the potential ineligibility before the season started. I'm guessing that tOSU asked the NCAA if it would be OK to play Marcus until the issue was resolved, as long as the review of the situation was completed in time for any potential suspension to be served this season.
