OL Kyle Dodson (Official Thread)

I'll be honest, I really wonder how USC can take Dodson when they know he can't contribute for a season due to injury. I'd think they would have to be more selective in terms of health to pick their lineman. They really can't afford many risks.

Can't blame him if he goes to USC (though I think their campus location leaves a lot to be desired). Mayhaps Kiffin thinks he can get that pipeline from northern Ohio to go his way.

I think picking him even though he has an injury will be a worry for any team that he chooses but that's a risk you take.
and as far as campus location, yes its in a shady neighborhood, but it hasnt stopped top recruits from going there before. And it hasn't stopped the affluent people of LA from sending their kids there either. Its not like the top players will be living on campus in south central anyway

I know they didn't have scholarship issues back then, but Matt Kalil missed much of his senior year of HS (leading to a get-back-in-shape RS year) due to an ATV accident.

Martin Coleman in the 2007 class was also brought in after a major injury his senior year...he ended up not starting in his 5 years at SC.

Really a crapshoot, but SC can pick 'em.

So, its not that I don't think Dodson can play or contribute. I hope that tOSU lands him. But USC has 15 schollies to hand out. I would think they need to be concerned about players that can contribute right away because redshirting is not going to be easy for USC under their scholarship restrictions. Remember, this is the 1st year they are going to be restricted.

I'm not talking about doing their homework on contributions, I'm just talking that they will be knocked down on schollies to where every single player will need to be in the 2-deep almost because there won't be much leeway with "missing" on a recruit due to injury.

Michael Brewster had a fairly significant, leg injury his senior (maybe junior) year in H.S. These coaches don't get paid 6 figures+ to not do their homework.
Getting paid 6 figures++ for these coaches doesn't mean anything. They aren't running physicals on these kids and plenty of HS players with injuries end up never or only mildly contributing in college despite all the talent in the world. Thats bad luck. I am not saying a thing about coaching quality.

Kiffin's jealousy of Meyer trumps all.

It's not like he's going to be around in five years anyways.

Said the same thing about Aubrey Walker and his mom. Somehow the whole family managed to relocate to LA. Strange things always seem to happen when USC is involved.

Strange things tend to happen when Lane Kiffin is involved as well. Kiffin also learned from Pete Carrol, who was a master at making strange things happen. Hmmm, I think I see a pattern here

I still think it's kinda fishy that Aundrey's people were able to move from Cleveland to LA just like that. Do you know the cost of living in LA compared to the cost of living in Cleveland? Not to mention leaving a job and finding a new one in a state with one of the worst job markets in the country.

Clearly you haven't been to Cleveland

Don't forget the cost of moving a family's belongings 2,000 miles.

Only cost me about $2,000 total to move all of my stuff (which was more than I thought I had) 1,200 miles from Ohio to South Florida, and I got a truck 2.5x the size of what I actually ended up needing, so it should have been less. That included storage units at both ends for 8 months (4 before and 4 after the move). It really is not all that expensive if you are willing to move/drive yourself.

well, considering that was for just yourself, not an entire family, and the drive to LA is only an additional 1,200 miles or so, I guess that's an apt comparison.
