Just explaining the situation although it’s relatively obvious....
Barton was plastered and completely irrational in the moment.
He feels/thinks he is a local celebrity. He was beyond intoxicated and borderline hurting people as he walked around slamming into people at Bogey Inn.
Security and police got him into a taxi to diffuse situation and get him out of bar. Kirk, was asked several times for his ID by police, even prior to them flagging him a taxi. Kirk refused to provide at all times for fear of being outed (I doubt local police had an exact idea of who he was).
Once taxi was provided, Kirk provided his ID so taxi driver could determine location he would be taking Barton. Once Kirk finally gave up his ID, the officer requested it from the driver, since Barton wouldn’t provide it earlier upon request. Again, Kirk being beyond hammered, irrationally thought separating the officer from his liscense could protect his identity.
Barton deserves any and all consequences coming to him, because ultimately, he chose to get that intoxicated. But he wasn’t in his right mind and I’ll always have some sympathy for people who make awful decisions while in an unnatural state of being. I completely understand people who take the opposite stance and say if you get that drunk/high/etc. be prepared to handle the consequences that can come with it.
Kirk can be over the top.....Kirk is not the type of guy who would typically slide a car door on a law enforcement officers arm....
