During the weeks leading up to the NFL Combine (Feb. 20) and Ohio State?s Pro Day (March 7), I have been treating my body to long workouts, healthy food, protein shakes, massages, and yoga. I also have been taking advantage of our underwater treadmill and hot tubs. Life is good when all you have to [?]

Perry to honor OSU's Barton
Monday, February 11, 2008

Perry High School will honor alum Kirk Barton at halftime of Wednesday's boys varsity basketball game against Central Catholic. Barton, a 2003 Perry graduate, recently finished his collegiate career at Ohio State, where he was a four-year starting offensive tackle. Barton was first-team Big Ten and AFCA All-America as a senior captain, helping the Buckeyes to their second straight outright Big Ten title and BCS National Championship Game appearance. The Buckeyes were undefeated in Barton's four years against Michigan. The junior varsity game starts at 6 p.m. with the varsity following at about 7:30.

Barton is readying for tests at combine
By JOE RUDEMILLER
[email protected]

Fresh off one of the most successful careers in the history of Ohio State football, one might think Perry product Kirk Barton could sit back, relax, and take a moment to relish everything he accomplished during his four years as the Buckeyes? starting right tackle.

That couldn?t be further from the truth, however, as the next two months of Barton?s life will likely require just as much work as his four years at Ohio State did, as he tries to prepare himself for his future career in the National Football League.

With all the importance placed on pre-draft workouts these days, Barton will be looking to impress scouts in preparation for the draft at the NFLcombine, held in Indianapolis, Ind., Feb. 20-26.

Despite the intense scrutiny that comes with such workouts, Barton, who?s coming off an injury to the meniscus in one of his knees, is ready for the pre-draft process to get started.

?I just had a meniscus (injury) and had to rehab it, but it?s felling good now. I ran hard on it today and I?m happy with how it is,? Barton said after being honored at halftime of the Perry-Central Catholic boys basketball game Wednesday night. ?Physically, I?m in great shape so I?m excited for the combine, I?m excited for Pro Day and I?m excited for the draft in April.?

Assuming the workouts go the way Barton plans, he hopes to be drafted within the first four rounds of the NFL draft, which will take place April 26-27 at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

?It?s kind of different this year because the first day is only the first two rounds but I could go anywhere from (round) two to four, hopefully, provided I run as well as I hope to,? Barton said. ?I know I?ll lift well, I had a good day lifting Monday. I?m excited to show what I?ve got.?

Ohio State Sends Three To NFL Combine
Barton, Grant, Gholston to perform for scouts

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Three former Ohio State football players will be among the professional football prospects undergoing testing and drills at the National Football League Combine Feb. 20-26 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

All-America offensive tackle Kirk Barton, a first team all-Big Ten selection as a junior and senior; linebacker Larry Grant, who made 14 career starts for the Buckeyes; and All-American Vernon Gholston , who declared for the draft after earning Big Ten defensive lineman of the year honors as a junior, were invited to participate by the NFL.

Offensive linemen will work out on Saturday, while defensive linemen and linebackers are on the schedule for Monday.

From Feb. 13th - Not posted yet here, but admittedly didnt look elsewhere:

Cardinals Scout Says "IN", but I got in fine, so I'm going to go ahead and paste - edit as necessary:

Cardinals Lean Toward Another Lineman

The Cardinals offensive line struggled last season due to injuries (Oliver Ross) and inexperience (Levi Jones). Arizona looks to bolster its offensive line depth this offseason to avoid a similarly mediocre performance. Samantha Fillerup examines an offensive tackle the Cardinals got an up-close look at during Senior Bowl week.

Ohio State offensive tackle Kirk Barton (6'6", 310 pounds) was one of the top linemen in college football. He earned second team All-Big Ten honors in 2006 and won the Jim Parker Offensive Lineman of the Week award in 2007.

Barton is a blue-collar blocker who gets by on his tenacity and intelligence. He is a powerful run blocker and can hold his own in pass protection, so long as he's not protecting his quarterback's blindside. In Arizona, that would mean competing for time at left tackle...

Remember, for the Cardinals LT=RT

Kirk Barton: 'Everybody's Got Google. Its Not Hard to Figure Out Everything You've Done'
Posted Feb 22nd 2008 9:40AM by Michael David Smith

Notes on a trip to the NFL Scouting Combine.

When asked today how much NFL teams already knew about him before they sat down for interviews here at the Indianapolis Combine, Ohio State offensive lineman Kirk Barton said, "Everybody's got Google. It's not hard to figure out everything you've done."

So there you go. NFL teams learn about draft prospects the same way you do.

Offensive Line prospects are finishing up their media time. OT Kirk Barton of *the* Ohio State University talked about what it was like playing for OSU and how it prepares you for the NFL. He also explained how he understands the combine process as "avoiding buying a lemon". He won't be doing the full work out because he was recovering from having his knee cleaned out.

Two-minute Drill: OT Kirk Barton

Saturday, February 23, 2008 2:57 AM
OT Kirk Barton

Five questions with Ohio State tackle Kirk Barton
Question: Will you work out at the combine?
Answer: No. I had an injury at the Senior Bowl, so I had my knee scoped on January 24th. I'm going to bench and I'm going to do position work. (The knee) checked out fine, though. I had an MRI. I passed the Cybex test and they were just pulling all over it. I had a good scope so I'm happy with how it turned out.
Q: Does your personality help at the combine with the interview process?
A: It definitely helps. Coming from a program like Ohio State, you're well prepared for the environment. You're able to answer questions in terms of what type of plays did you run, what would you do against this formation, your top five pass protections and run-blocking schemes and things like that. The experience at Ohio State is valuable for that. I'm really grateful to be able to go there.

West Stark standouts prepare for life in pros
By GREG KOHNTOPP

Barton, a four-year starting right tackle for Ohio State, will get the first crack at impressing NFL scouts as the kickers, offensive linemen and tight ends workout today. Barton, however, according to nfldraftscout.com, won?t be able to participate fully in all drills due to a knee injury suffered at the Senior Bowl last month.

Instead, he will do the bench press and perform some position drills.

Last week, Barton told The Independent that he had hoped to run and lift well enough to secure a spot in the draft?s first four rounds.

?(The draft) is kind of different this year because the first day is only the first two rounds, but I could go anywhere from (round) two to four, hopefully, provided I run as well as I hope to,? the 6-foot-4, 315-pounder said after being honored at halftime of Perry?s boys basketball game against Central Catholic. ?I know I?ll lift well. ... I?m excited to show what I?ve got.?

Barton?s strengths are his big-game experience and his field awareness. However, NFL scouts have questioned his speed and balance. He is projected to be drafted from anywhere from round 4 to 6.

One of the more worthless "measureables"...

For most positions, yes, but NFL scouts see a big wingspan or sleevelength, and interpret that as an OT being able to keep a DL's hands away.

Jake Long's good show of strength (he does have long arms, which makes the bench press difficult), probably locked himself into the top 5.
