Risers
Kirk Barton, OT, Ohio State: Barton has been a surprise at the Senior Bowl, delivering more than what was expected. He's done a solid job against many of the speedy pass rushers who beat him in college.

Barton not sharp
Ohio State OT Kirk Barton didn't fare as well in his first day. Barton had a difficult time handling speed rushers off the edge and was constantly being pushed back on his heels.
He showed that he's a much better run blocker than he is a pass blocker.
Barton did not anchor well and showed limited athletic ability.

Q&A | Kirk Barton
Straight talker has regrets
Thursday, January 24, 2008 3:33 AM
By Tim May
The Columbus Dispatch
Kirk Barton is preparing to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., his days as a right tackle for Ohio State done. But during the next couple of months you'll still have a good chance of bumping into him at the Subway on Riverside Drive just south of Trabue Road.
"I've eaten here almost every day since last June," Barton said before he headed for Mobile. For as Jared Fogle proved, a sub done right "is healthy. No cheese, no mayonnaise, with lean turkey or chicken and plenty of vegetables, it's great fuel for your body. You can barely taste it, but I chug it down because you know it's good for you."
At 6 feet 5, 308 pounds, he doesn't only eat subs. But Subway was a good place to catch up to a man who started in four straight wins over Michigan. Of course, many fans might better remember the losses in two national championship games, and Barton understands.
"As a player, it will be with you forever," he said.
A: Yeah, so my advice to the 2008 team is play as hard as you can on senior day, because it's going to be Michigan, and everybody is going to be saying Michigan is down. Just remember 1969. Just like this coming season, Michigan had a new coach, and Ohio State had the greatest team ever, almost the whole team coming back -- it's the same deal. You've got to get it done.

Kirk Barton and Tim May said:A: I've never been a champion, so I'm not a good guy to answer that question. Basically, though, if I was to tell them anything it would be that the last game you play is the one you have to live with forever. And my last game, senior day, in the Horseshoe was a loss to Illinois. And my last game as a Buckeye was a loss to LSU in the national championship game.
Q: Wow. That's blunt.
Barton's Making Friends -- and a Change
Scout.com's Ed Thompson caught up with the heart and soul of Ohio State's 2007 offensive line, Kirk Barton, during Senior Bowl week. And as he talked about his experiences and some new friends he's made in Mobile, he also revealed that a change is underway that he hopes will improve his value to NFL teams.
he had a message for the Ohio State fans.
"We appreciate your support," he said. "And be excited about this year's team, because they have outstanding leadership coming back. And they're hoping for a special season."
Injured Barton, Crable sent home from Senior Bowl

Ohio State, Michigan, and ultimately Massillon, lost at the Senior Bowl this week. Buckeye right tackle Kirk Barton strained his knee during practices in Mobile, Ala., for today?s Senior Bowl. Consequently, Barton was sent home and will not play in the college senior all-star game.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder will undergo an MRI today at Ohio State.
Barton said his knee injury was not serious, and he continued to practice on it until common sense set in and the knee stiffened up a bit. Barton and Crable were among the 12 players sent home because of injuries.
?They don?t mess around,? Barton said. ?If you have anything remotely close to an injury, you get sent home. It?s going to be fine. It?s just poor timing.?
Barton interviewed with about 22 NFL teams. It was face time with general managers and coaches.
?In my estimation, the first two days, I did really well,? Barton said. ?A lot of scouts commented that I did well. ... I need to get this taken care of soon. I?ll probably bench press at the NFL Combine and run at (Ohio State?s) pro day and be ready for minicamp after that.?
BARTON?S SENIOR BOWL
When Kirk Barton strained his knee during Senior Bowl practices, it didn?t damage his week in Mobile, Ala., too much. Ohio State?s right tackle got to meet with 22 NFL teams and had impressive one-on-one practice sessions. He missed two practices and the game, which isn?t nearly as important as face-to-face interviews.
Barton talked with a scout from the Browns, but the team indicated it would chat with him in more detail at the NFL Combine next month. Browns General Manager Phil Savage leans toward bringing in local players to spend time at the team?s facility before the draft.
Barton said it was easy not to be awed by NFL celebrity.
?It?s not hard when you realize you?re an adult now, and these are job interviews,? he said. ?You?re not a fan. These are people who want to do business with you. You try to act professional and be courteous. I had a lot of fun and got to meet a lot of guys. It?s like playing the Big 33 or North-South game. These are guys I?m going to be playing with and against, and they?ll be friends for years to come.?
Incidentally, CNNSI.com reported Barton was one of the prospects who helped his stock in practice.
WHAT WAS THAT?
The weirdest question Barton was asked: ?If you had $200, who would you go out to eat with?? His answer: his girlfriend. Smart kid, already.
?They asked about your family, your girlfriend and what she does. They want to know if you?re willing to live in their city year round to take part in the off-season program. They ask who?d move with you. They?re cautious of entourage-type guys. I?m not an entourage guy. I?m an offensive lineman. No one wants to hang with me anyway.?
