OL Justin Boren (Official Thread)

I've watched a lot of the scUM vs UF and MSU games from last year lately on the B10 Network (what can I say, I'm dying for some football).

Anyway, watching Trent just reinforces to me how completely delsuional they have become in AA. The mantra from up there is that he has become a very solid college CB.

To continue Mili's theme, he gets absolutely ape fucked by multiple receivers, multiple times per game. In The Game '07 they throw at him early and often, he gets bailed out by a no call on an obvious PI. Pretty much any time in '07 the opposing team needed a play they threw at Trent.

He may be better than he was in '06 but he still sucks.

daddy big bucks.......the reason mike boren didn't get an offer from osu and was a much better linebacker than bryon lee and mike kee is because it was earle bruces first year and he didn't recruit any of the central ohio players that year. bob stuart tried to get him to take either mike, keith griffin or mark harrison and he said no to each of them. so mike went to um and became a star player there as did griffin at miami and harrison went to wisconsin. also in cols that year was greg bell who went to notre dame and alfonso carreker who went to florida st. bruce said that none of them were good enough to get offers from osu. so major screw up for earle bruce. thats why after mike made it big at um as did the others at their schools bruce made sure to take any cols player who could walk and chew gum at same time just to quiet his critics.
a most useful case study in the tangled web of consquences of operating on one's preferences, instead of certain, equitable standards.

well...i've watched alot of water go under the bringe, and my body is slowly dying. So obviously i'm fully qualified to post. :wink2: Relational possibility: The fool points and laughs at his opponent's delusions.... The wise man continually looks for his own blind spots, while unobtrusively exploiting his opponent's to competitive advantage.

speaking of Sun Tzu, i met your pictorial protoge at the Erawan Hotel in Bangkok on the last Bob Hope show in '72, after a nice long day and night in-country salting up my flight suit. What a cool guy. If JT would consider the situation and opponent like he considered the tolerance and the audience...we'd have ourselves a master tactician AND we could keep complaining how JT has to 'step up and do more' cuz' he's only won 3 NC's in a row...and failed to 'dominate' in 2 of 'em.... :oh:

Among them was Justin Boren, resplendent in his scarlet jersey and gray pants. What a departure from the maize and blue uniform he wore a year ago going into his sophomore season at Michigan.

But then, he left Michigan a couple of months after Rich Rodriguez took over for Lloyd Carr, Boren citing an erosion of family values in the program among his reasons. And even though Rodriguez recently said that comment was the one that stung the most, Boren today didn't back away from his opinion, though he didn't want to dwell on it.

"It wasn't a comment I made out of the blue, or for no specific reasons," said Boren, who must sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules.

A few feet away on the Ohio Stadium field was his father Mike Boren who, despite having been one of the late Bo Schembechler's favorite players in the early 1980s as a Michigan linebacker, didn't look uncomfortable in the new home. That Michigan legacy was a major reason why Justin Boren, from Pickerington North, picked Michigan over OSU in the first place, but Mike Boren didn't let that legacy stand in his son's way when it was time to make a move.

"It's all good," Mike Boren said. "This is all about Justin, and he couldn't be in a better situation than he's in here now."

Mike Boren is even wearing an Ohio State shirt from time to time now, because he's got to get used to it. Justin's younger brother Zach, a linebacker at Pickerington Central, already has committed to the OSU class of 2009.

Teddy's speed may never be matched at OSU. But his agility is a different story. Very good, but we'll see others more agile and elusive on such plays as above.
robert smith? joey galloway? both of those guys had the same feel to me. any and every play they could house it. routine plays could be big plays. the ability to drive the dagger on a toss sweep/screen pass, etc..

(granted this makes me think of the nice line of backs at the time... carlos snow (pre surgery as good as e smith), smith, snow, harris, george..)

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL
Michigan transfer Justin Boren fitting in with Ohio State

Saturday, August 09, 2008

Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter

Columbus- Justin Boren didn't stand out. He blended right in Thursday at Ohio State's team photo day, a Wolverine in scarlet clothing. Actually, at 6-3 and 310 pounds, the player who started every game for Michigan in 2007 is noticeably smaller than at least eight Buckeyes offensive linemen.
People found him, though, in his No. 56. Defensive tackle Dexter Larimore's dad stopped to grab him for a photo. Defensive tackle Todd Denlinger's mom swatted him on the shoulder pad and smiled.
"Welcome to the Buckeyes. We're so glad you're here."
The Wolverines are as glad he's gone, at least after the way Boren departed Michigan. That story has been told: His transfer to an arch-rival one wound, but his statement about eroding family values at Michigan the thing that bothered new Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez most during his tumultuous off-season.
Under transfer rules, Boren will redshirt this season, then he should fight for a starting job next year as a junior. After summer workouts, he said like he feels like just one of the guys, like he's been in Columbus for two years. But he'll never be just another Buckeye.
He's not sorry about stinging the new regime at his old school with his departing statement. And he made it clear that Ohio State coaches interact with players much differently than the new Michigan coaches, in his opinion.
Q: Did you understand how big of a story you were going to be?
A: "It was in the back of my head. I knew going from Michigan to Ohio State, they were going to hype it up. But it's not a big deal to me."
Q: So were you shocked by how much attention this story has received?
A: "A little bit . . . but I just didn't let it get to me. And I'm sure it's not going to stop for Ohio State-Michigan games years ahead. I'm sure it's going to be hyped up."

Scout$--Boren Becoming A Buckeye

Justin says none of the current Wolverine roster speaks to him but he does maintain contact with former players like Mike Hart...he says he gets at least one threatening message per day via Facebook or email. Mike Boren says he is being converted into a Buckeye and all of his former teammates support his kids.

Ohio State notebook: Boren has no regrets about choice to transfer

Sunday, August 10, 2008 3:40 AM

By Tim May

The Columbus Dispatch

Justin Boren is five months removed from Michigan and just over a year away from playing in his first game for Ohio State. But the most noteworthy transfer in the history of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry feels as if he has found a home, even if it means all he can do is practice for a while.
"I am very happy here; very happy," the junior-to-be offensive lineman said when he met with the media last week.
He said he continues to receive e-mail from Michigan fans still upset not only for his leaving, but also for the way he criticized the early days of the regime of new Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez. Boren had said then there was an erosion of family values in the school's program, a remark that Rodriguez said in July hurt the most out of everything that's happened in his first eight months on the job.
"I stand by my comments 100 percent," Boren said the other day. "I know I took some heat for that, but that's the way I felt, and I'm not going to take anything back."
