OL Justin Boren (Official Thread)

Bob Greasy says "He never really liked Michigan, now he's just blaming it on the new coach"!

Never really liked TSUN? Sounds like a Buckeye to me.

And Greasy has anything remotely unbiased to say here? WTF... He's a bag-o-dick-eating-ass-clown.

I think I said this back in the rumor mill... this move took brass ones on Justin's part... still think so.

In the end it's great news for us, and I hope the best for the entire family... Boren family (dad included), welcome to the Buckeye family.

Wow, just read this piece off th Dispatch web site. Which brings me to tie what I saw last night on ESPN's College Football Live. They did a piece on West Va. And the sentiment there , from what I took from the piece is they are not missing him there. Which poses the assumtion that maybe some of what Boren said holds merit.
There was a reason Justin made the 'family values' comment, and it was not because of running or not offering his bro (though the tabloid network made sure to post those internet submissions up for all to see). Ask someone who has been to his practices at WVU or UM. Or just take coach osugrad21 (more here) or pat white's word for it. The feedback is quite consistent.

The difference lies in the reaction to it. When it's a UM fan whose program desperately needed a change in attitude, there's a lot more latitude given for such tactics.

Some, especially those who once praised him, wish to paint Justin as soft because of it. They'll say whatever they wish, but making those comments publically with a full month left at UM is the last thing someone should do if they can't handle the harassment that ensued.

Leaving a staff you don't respect b/c of their approach and leaving to escape that approach are two very different things.

UM fans are in a bit of a pickle. They know RR is going to be there for a few years at least and that the best way to shorten that time is for the program to suck. So you have to delude yourself. The more I think about those poor UM fans the more I think they should just......

Ex-Wolverine Boren decides to join Ohio State football team

Thursday, April 24, 2008 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- One of the most stunning transfers college football could imagine was finalized with a whimper, Justin Boren speaking only through Jim Tressel and Mike Boren, who did not wish to elaborate about his son's move from Michigan to Ohio State.
They can't diminish what happened this week. After sitting out the 2008 season, Justin Boren, a starter for the Wolverines at both center and left guard in 2007, could be a starter on Ohio State's offensive line in 2009. That's rivalry whiplash.
Boren left Michigan a month ago, creating a stir while questioning the family values of new coach Rich Rodriguez. The Pickerington, Ohio, native landed more quietly at OSU, which also has a scholarship offer out to his younger brother, Zach. But according to Section 14.5.2.B of the Rules of Eligibility in the Big Ten handbook, the older Boren can never be on scholarship at OSU because he transferred from a conference school.
@StoryAd
"I'm proud of the decision he made. He did give up a lot," was all that Mike Boren, a former Wolverine player under Bo Schembechler, would say about the move. He said Notre Dame and UCLA were among the schools offering his older son scholarships now.
Boren will have two years of eligibility remaining starting in 2009, when the Buckeyes will be looking to replace three offensive line starters. Throwing Boren in with '08 recruits Mike Adams, Michael Brewster and J.B. Shugarts should make filling those holes less difficult.
And then Boren will play at Michigan in 2009, a former Michigan man in OSU colors. That will create more than a whimper.

I think the distinction that jwins makes, based in part on the posts to which he refers, speaks volumes. This is not a young man who ran from anything. It is a young man who chose to go where the principles and values he chooses are more welcome. He gave up a lot to do that and I applaud him.

Traitor? Justin Boren transfers to Ohio State in 'unprecedented' move

FREE PRESS STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES ? April 24, 2008

Some Michigan fans might call him traitor. Ohio State fans might call him a hero.

Former Michigan offensive lineman Justin Boren, who left Michigan in mid-March citing a "decline of family values" under coach Rich Rodriguez, has transferred to Ohio State. Boren started all of last season at center and left guard for Michigan.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel confirmed the transfer to the Columbus Dispatch.

"It's exciting to be coming back home to central Ohio," Boren, who just finished the spring semester at Michigan, said in a statement through Tressel. "I am looking forward to the chance to help the Buckeyes continue their excellence in any way I can."

Tressel welcomed the transfer.

"Justin is a fine young man and an excellent football player," Tressel said. "We are happy that he has decided to continue his career at Ohio State and ultimately earn his degree in his hometown."

Boren will have to pay his own way for his final three years -- this season sitting out under transfer rules and his final two years of on-field eligibility.

Rob Oller commentary: Boren will have to work to win over OSU fans

By Rob Oller

It seems that arrival of the Justin Boren (65) to Ohio State by way of Michigan is generating curiosity more than criticism among Buckeyes fans.

Michigan fans weren't the issue. Justin Boren already knew what was coming, and it wasn't going to be pretty. He would be labeled a traitor in vocabulary unsuitable for print. By leaving Ann Arbor for Columbus, he would become the ultimate enemy of the Wolverines.
Fear of the known paled, however, in comparison with fear of the unknown awaiting him among Ohio State fans.
Once he decided to leave Michigan last month, Boren, an offensive lineman from Pickerington North, began to weigh his options. Ohio State led the pack of possibilities, but the thought of joining the Buckeyes created anxiety on several fronts, not the least of which was whether those responsible for creating and upholding the OSU culture -- alumni, teammates, coaches, fans and students -- would welcome a Michigan man into the fold.

Maybe they should take a cue from previous Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, who according to a source close to the situation worked behind the scenes to help Boren obtain his scholarship release from Michigan. Carr even assured Boren that Ohio State is the closest thing to Michigan that he would find and that there are "good people" in Columbus.
Wow. Just ...

Wow.
