OL Joey O'Connor (transfer to Colorado State)

Welcome to the Buckeye Family, Joey!!

I love this kid. Stylistically, he reminds me a LOT of TJ Downing, but I think Joey has a higher ceiling once he gets into the system and learns it. I've never seen a HS player with a motor like his on the O-Line and he has great instincts. When I saw his JR year video, I felt like he was potentially a dirty player. After seeing more film on him (below), I couldn't disagree more. After he puts a player on his back, he's the first one to reach his hand down and pull the opponent back onto his feet. Or gives him an "adda boy" on his helmet after he's taken him 30 yds away from the play. He's just doing what he has to do. One thing's for darn sure though: you want him on YOUR side and not on the other side of the ball.

Windsor High School offensive lineman Joey O?Connor announced today he has ended a recruiting process which he described as ?extremely stressful? by verbally committing to Ohio State University.

O?Connor (6-5, 296) backed away from an earlier pledge to Penn State after news surfaced about the sexual abuse scandal surrounding an assistant coach. He had narrowed his list to two schools, Iowa and Ohio State, but phoned Ohio State Football Coach Urban Meyer on Monday night to end the suspense.

Ultimately, O?Connor said he was looking for the same things he thought he had found at Penn State?tradition, family and a coach in whom he could believe.

?He?s a great guy,? O?Connor said about Meyer, who is entering his first season with the Buckeyes. ?He?s very competitive, very passionate about what he does, but he?s also very family oriented. His family comes first, and he?s all about the team.?

O?Connor said that he began receiving calls from Meyer just three days after he accepted the job as head coach. In addition to Meyer, O?Connor said he was also in contact with Ohio State Offensive Coordinator Tom Herman.

The highly-touted lineman had some time remaining to take the rest of his five official visits, but he admitted that the recruiting process was becoming a chore.

?I thought I was going to (take all my visits), but I went up there (to Columbus) and enjoyed it,? said O?Connor about his visit to Ohio State Jan. 13. ?It felt like the right place, and I don?t need to deal with this stress anymore. I?m glad it?s done, glad I found a place where I feel at home.?
