Joey O'Connor to transfer to Colorado State
Feb. 9, 2013
The combination of playing close to home and for a program he feels is on the upswing was enough to convince Joey O?Connor to transfer to CSU.
In January the offensive lineman decided he wanted to leave Ohio State. He asked for, and was granted, a release from his scholarship at Ohio State.
?When I decided I was going to transfer I knew that coach (Jim) McElwain had a good thing going on at Colorado State,? O?Connor said. ?I talked to them a little bit once I was released I just knew that it was close to home and close to my support. It seemed like it was the right place to go.?
In his freshman season at Ohio State O?Connor redshirted after undergoing knee surgery.
O?Connor remains in Columbus, Ohio as he finishes out the semester. He is able to use the facilities to continue his workouts and rehabilitation from his knee. He said that he is ahead of schedule with his rehab.
He said that he will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Windsor is just outside Fort Collins, so all you have to do is turn around and look the other way to see mountains. I'd live in FoCo if my company had something there.
Joey O'Connor to join Colorado State football program
Windsor native will enroll at Colorado State after Spring semester
March 27, 2013
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Joey O'Connor, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound offensive lineman from Windsor, Colo., has been accepted to Colorado State University and will join the football team for the 2013 season. O'Connor will transfer from Ohio State, where he was redshirted as a freshman in 2012 after suffering a season-ending knee injury in fall camp.
O'Connor was a prep star at Windsor High School, just 15 miles from the Colorado State campus. He initially signed a letter of intent with Ohio State after being rated the No. 12 offensive tackle prospect in the nation by Rivals.com and a four-star recruit. He was a starter on the offensive line for four years, earning all-state honors as a junior and senior.
"We are very excited to welcome Joey O'Connor to Colorado State University and to our football family," said head coach Jim McElwain. "He has chosen to come back to Colorado, and be closer to home, and the fact that he chose Colorado State speaks volumes about this university and the outstanding things happening in our football program."
O'Connor played hockey for 11 years before concentrating on football in high school, and was named Colorado's 2011 state 3A player of the year. An Under Armour All-American, who was the No. 1 player in Colorado according to ESPNU and the No. 2 player by the Denver Post and Rivals.com, O'Connor was ranked just beyond the Rivals.com Top 100. He was a SuperPrep all-Midlands selection, and capped his career by helping coach Chris Jones' Wizards team win the 2011 state championship.
A leader off the field as well, O'Connor was student body president at Windsor High.

Despite Windsor High School and CSU being only 15 miles apart, Joey O?Connor traveled thousands of miles during the past two years and passed on legendary coaches Joe Paterno and Urban Meyer to end up at Colorado State University.
The lineman was one of the top recruits in the state coming out of Windsor. His wild recruiting ride took him to Penn State before the infamous child sex scandal prompted him to change his decision to Ohio State. After a frustrating freshman year as a Buckeye, where he didn?t play because of a knee injury, O?Connor is transferring to CSU.
