OL Harry Miller (Official Thread)

How does the entire O-line grade out champions in a game where you let up 5 sacks and score 1 offensive TD in the 2nd half?

They picked up the blitzes as best as you could expect them to.

QB and OC have to see those blitzes and not keep calling long down field shots when they send more rushers than you have blockers.

You are right. The OL coach grades the OL ..he’s putting the sacks and hits on the OC and QB . My question is who’s calling the protections pre snap Myers or Fields?

calling pre snap protection is different than the QB and WR's adjusting routes or changing plays to exploit the blitz.

I'd put almost every sack and hurry on Fields/Day not checking into a more appropriate play for the kind of blitzing they were seeing.

It was like watching a Cooper or Tressel offense call the 7 step drop, 360 spinorama play fake on obvious passing downs. Maddening.

Saw the same thing with Tampa Tom last night. They kept trying to cram a square peg in a round whole. There is tons of arrogance there with Brady and Arians. I don’t think OSU has that problem so I expect improvement versus Lovies Tampa Two defense.

Why Harry Miller is limited in spring practice and other Ohio State football injury news

XNYVIVVWORAURDU6GGFW7NUJO4.JPG

One of Ohio State football’s returning offensive line starters is not expected to practice in full this spring.

Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said junior Harry Miller is not cleared for contact and probably will not be for all of spring drills. He did not specify the nature of Miller’s injury.

Ohio State will hold its first spring practice in pads on Wednesday.

Miller started Ohio State’s first six games last season as a sophomore — five at left guard and one at center in place of starter Josh Myers. He missed the College Football Playoff semifinal against Clemson after testing positive for coronavirus. He did not start against Alabama in the national championship but did play.

It has been presumed that Miller will shift back to center, his original position, since Myers left school early to enter the NFL Draft. When asked about Miller’s possible shift to center, Day reiterated OSU’s need to find the best five offensive linemen and said versatility is a strength.

“Now, how does that fit in terms of position specificity? That’s what it comes down to in terms of figuring that out over the spring,” Day said. “But the more that guys can do, the more roles, the more value that they have.”

I wonder how this injury affects Miller in the competition for OC. I think many think that it's a foregone conclusion that he will start, but I could just as easily see Matthew Jones or Luke Wylper getting the starting nod as well. This is arguably the deepest OL we've had in a VERY long time, and the only surefire starters are Munford and NPF. The interior will be a very fun battle to watch, I could see the interior starters being: PJJ, Jones, Jones; just as I can see the starters being: PJJ, Miller, (M)Jones

Since Miller is a returner, I kinda doubt any decisions will be made when he can't even go full contact this spring. It would be entirely different if he wasn't already a starter.

Until this spring. Miller was in a non-contact jersey for the 15 practice sessions in March and April. Luke Wypler assumed duties at center in Miller’s absence. Other guards — Josh Fryar and Matthew Jones — emerged as potential breakout candidates for this fall. At least five Buckeyes offensive linemen are battling for the open spots at center and guard.

Miller is certainly still the leader to take over at center. He’ll likely take control of the spot that has produced two Rimington Trophy winners in the last five years and countless other pro centers.

Even with his setback this spring, the blueprint is still in place.

“Absolutely, there’s no question — I would assume [Miller] is going to be one of the best five,” offensive line coach Greg Studrawa said. “These young guys are getting the reps and getting the work. But when the preseason comes, Harry is going right back into that mix — whether that be at center or at guard.

“We’re working on the best five, and I would assume he will be one of them. But we’ll see.”

As hard as it is to believe, Miller still hasn’t gone through an entire spring with the Buckeyes. He was on a mission trip to Nicaragua during the spring prior to his freshman season. Last spring was almost entirely canceled by COVID-19. And this spring, Miller was rehabbing back from an offseason surgery.

Over the past seven years, Miller has traveled nearly a dozen times to Nicaragua on similar trips. He brought along teammate Tommy Eichenberg as recently as last year, before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

So as it became permissible this month for college athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness, Miller had an idea. He started an online pop-up store selling t-shirts, sweatshirts and baseball caps that feature a logo of his personal brand. The logo includes the letter “H” within a curved shield.

All of the proceeds from the sales will be donated to Mission for Nicaragua, a nonprofit for which Miller is one of five board members and which was formed by members of Miller's church group. They continue to provide food, medicine and other resources for children at a school in Los Brasiles, Nicaragua. It’s his only NIL-related pursuit for the time being due to football demands and academic commitments as a mechanical engineering major.

“I’m tremendously fortunate to have good friends, a good family support system, clothes, food,” Miller said. “I have my guitars and my books, so there's not really much else I'm looking to buy. The reality is that the money can get stretched a lot further for a lot more people, and therefore, it's the most utilitarian thing to do. It would be uncouth of me to not take note of that, especially for a community that's been so supportive of me for upwards of a decade now. They deserve it.”
