OL Ethan Onianwa (Official Thread)

I think the coaching staff may want Ethan to play a similar role as Austin did last year focusing on being the next guy in at both Guard and Tackle. His versatility to play both positions at a high level will be a valuable asset like Austin was last year, though he never played Tackle (IIRC).

Thoughts?
He was an OT in HS

College is like the NFL now. Sometimes NFL teams miss on free agents obviously. But man, whoever scouted and recommended giving this guy a million, that's quite a swing and a miss
Weren’t there national talent evaluators saying they were surprised he stayed in college and didn’t go to the NFL?

Some guys just go south and we never know why.

in retrospect paying him a high dollar amount was a mistake; that’s obvious. From a systematic standpoint I don’t have concerns with the organizational approach. For every Ethan there’s Klare, Atkinson and Malone.

If we want to mistakenly assess this through an NFL lens, look at the hit-to-miss ratio. It just seems really obvious that we hit on transfers a lot more than we miss. Never missing is impossible.

I dunno

Yea, if OSU continues to rely on the portal this is gonna be part of the reality, like someone mentioned, I still think the approach is correct, just keep the ratios solid.

Still disappointed with Ethan's situation, but not all of these guys are gonna turn out like Fields, Downs, Bowen, etc.

Yeah, in hindsight you'd love to give that money to Hero Kanu and just give the few extra snaps to Ian Moore or Padilla or whoever. But like you said, nobody hits 1.000
