OL Connor Smith (official thread)

He said he wanted to commit right away but his parents told him to look around and make sure it was the right decision. You have to respect that, especially since his father was a former Buckeye. Sounds like a great kid in the interview as well. I'm sure he'll have a lot of success in Columbus.

I can't get the interview to work for some reason. Can anyone help me out with some main points?
Cobrani -- wanted to get his decision over with and focus on his senior season.
Connor - great academics, great people, great coaches up there - just like we have here (Colerain).
And bad-dah that really is about all they had at 6:00 PM

So where is the rest of it?

Yes, we could probably steal Cobrani. With the combined talents of this board I am certain of it.

But what is the point? As soon as we untied him we would get busted, and he would be even less inclined to play for OSU.

And once they tracked the plot back to this thread they would probably shut the entire board down. Too much work has been put in by too many people to risk that.

Just not worth it.

Now around the middle of October we might start a similar thread about Hart and Henne - but let's do it in the rumor mill.

(Sorry oneshot - long day. Just where my mind is tonight.)

Is there a chance we can steal Cobrani?

Yes...

Its a slim chance...but a chance, nonetheless.

The linchpin is Tyler Moeller...If Moeller becomes a Buckeye, the odds of Cobrani joining his two teammates/friends in Columbus is possible. Not guaranteed, but possible.

Another possibility is if all three go to OSU look for Eugene Clifford to move OSU high on his list. Clifford is a Junior this season and WILL be a five star DB recruit in next seasons class.

You heard it here first.

Connor Smith has committed to Ohio State, and no other college had a chance to land the Colerain football star.

Smith, ranked by most analysts the No. 1 Cincinnati prospect in this fall's prep senior class, is the son of former Ohio State offensive lineman Joe Smith. The elder Smith also played at Colerain, then made 36 starts for Ohio State between 1979-82.

"I've been a Buckeye fan since I was old enough to understand football," said Connor Smith, who announced his OSU commitment Monday to Cincinnati media. "My dad was one of the last recruits of Woody Hayes, right before Earle Bruce took over."

Connor Smith wanted to announce for OSU last winter. "I was ready to commit to coach (Jim) Tressel in February, but my parents told me to wait," Smith said. "Any time you make a decision that big, you should take some time."

Connor Smith said he visited OSU, Michigan, Tennessee and Florida. In the end, he picked OSU over Florida.

"He had what I call a wedding-dress moment, where you just know that's it," said Marcy Smith, Connor's mother. "After visiting other places, it cemented Ohio State even more."

Connor Smith, 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, was a starting tackle for last year's Colerain team that went 15-0 and won the Ohio Division I championship.

Smith is rated the No. 1 offensive line prospect in the Midwest and the No. 5 offensive lineman in the country by Scout.com. He is ranked Ohio's No. 4 overall prospect by Ohio High magazine.

Kerry Coombs said Smith is the most heavily recruited player he has had in 15 seasons as Cardinals coach.

"What separates him is his intensity, from the start of a play through the end of a play," Coombs said. "He's big and he can run. He was recruited by everybody, from all four corners of the country."

The Enquirer has been showing some love for the Bucks. I have e-mailed back and forth with the Sports Editor and he seems to be coming around. His wife is an OSU Alum.
