'I promise I'll be a Buckeye': Brady Taylor's eighth grade vow to his mother comes true with pledge to Ohio State: Buckeyes recruiting

COLUMBUS, Ohio – When Brady Taylor was in eighth grade he went to an Ohio State football game with his mother, a lifelong Columbus resident, looked her in the eyes and made a promise that would take years to fulfill.

“I told my Mom then that one day I was going to play at Ohio State,” Taylor told Cleveland.com in a phone interview Monday. “She kind of blew it off, but I said, ‘No, I promise I'll be a Buckeye one day.' That has been my goal ever since.”

Then Monday morning came and Taylor, along with his mother and the rest of his family, was sitting in Urban Meyer’s office with a scholarship offer in hand. Meyer sat across the desk giving one final pitch as to why Taylor should be a Buckeye.

What Meyer may not have known was that Taylor had already made up his mind.

“I knew before the meeting what I was going to do,” Taylor said. “I just wanted my entire family to be there, and they couldn’t during my official visit over the weekend. I committed with my entire family there and it was definitely a special moment.”

Taylor’s mother, Susan, is the type who tears up when Ohio State’s band performs Script Ohio during pregame festivities. When she walked out of Meyer’s office with her son, now officially a Buckeye, she got emotional again knowing Taylor would be playing his college football 20 minutes from home.

Contd....

I'm not sure why some guys are calling Taylor a "Plan D" and such. Not many 3* or non-big name player turn out to be great, but see this from December when Taylor was still a VT commit:

Five steals for the Class of 2014

3. Brady Taylor, OT, Columbus (Ohio) Bishop Ready, committed to Virginia Tech (247Sports Composite: Rating 0.8563/3 stars, Ranking No. 62 OT)

The Hokies are yet another program that is no stranger to finding steals on the recruiting trail and they have another one in the 6-foot-5, 275-pound Taylor. Taylor has good feet, is athletic and has the frame to add weight and strength. Virginia Tech offensive line coach Jeff Grimes, who has a great reputation for evaluating the position, was high on Taylor and went after him hard, surprisingly beating Kentucky (which has cleaned up on low first and high second-tier Ohio talent this cycle) for his services. Taylor could be a starter by his second season or sooner in Blacksburg

He was a plan d compared to guys like Mavety, Johnson, eluemenor, etc. most had never really even heard of Taylor until recently. Not taking anything away from Brady, but if we got one of the other guys he wouldn't be a Buckeye, he just got an offer.
I hope he has a great career at OSU, but a lot of chips had to fall in order for him to becomes buckeye. But now that we have him, can't wait for Warriner to mold him and pantoni to condition him

That is how fate works. Things going the exact opposite of the way they looked like they were going to go and then, BAM, everything pushes you towards where you are meant to go. Could be a great story by the end here.

It very well could be. And at worse, he provides quality depth at a position of need. But his love for the school and program makes any fan root hard for him.

People who haven't done any evaluation beyond his star rating. Of course stars are nice and can make recruiting fun but I've always been a Brady Taylor fan. Love this offer and I am really glad we had room for him. A true "Plan D" would be like in '07 when we whiffed on everyone and ended up with Pentello. Not the case here, Brady is an OSU caliber player with tremendous upside.
