OL Antonio Underwood (Official Thread)

A day to remember

Antonio Underwood (Shaker Heights HS) ? This is the aforementioned unheard of recruit that gave his commitment to the staff. Antonio is another player that projects at OG and comes in slightly smaller than Carter at 6?3 and 295 lbs. He has the hands and leverage abilities to play either side of the line at DT, but was recruited at guard. It?s a little fuzzy who committed first, but that?s only fitting due to the similarities he and Carter share. Underwood visited with his grandfather and received an offer before he left and didn?t hesitate to give his verbal right back to the staff. He also shows very strong athleticism with short and concise footwork, which plays a large part in him having some of the best leverage you?ll see out of an interior lineman in high school. He?s going to give the staff flexibility with where to put him, which is always a strong plus when handing out early offers.

Rank of the 5 commits: 5th, but only due to the lack of current film available.

Could someone post a review of this kid? I wouldn't even consider myself a novice when it comes to evaluating football talent, but I see a kid with a quick first step, long arms and a good body type to hold the weight needed to be a DT or OG.

So here is my question, the tape I viewed showed him primarily on the DL and he seemed to get off the ball very quickly and was able to shed blocks well, so why was is all the talk about Underwood being on the OL and not the DL?

Scout $ - Underwood Ready To 'Pull' His Own Weight

4/7

By Jardy...talks about his strengths and areas for improvement...his coach was concerned his height (6-foot-3.5) would keep OSU from offering...his coach talks about why he is such a great athlete...talks about receiving and accepting the OSU offer.

Whats wrong with his height? I thought that the 6'4'' range would be fine for an interior lineman. Is it not?

Bollman has been quoted in the past as saying that he normally only recruits OL that are at least 6-4. Height is overrated anyway for an OL. What is really important is reach/wingspan.

Catching up with Antonio Underwood
Smith | 4/30/10

Shaker Heights (OH) offensive lineman Antonio Underwood was offered a scholarship by Ohio State back in March and committed on the spot. It came as a bit of a surprise to Buckeye nation but not to Underwood himself. Ever since then the fan base has been scrambling to learn whatever they can about this under the radar big man. I had a chance to catch up with this talented line prospect after a follow up visit to Ohio State for their annual spring game.

Ohio State football recruit Tony Underwood wants to bring back the tradition at Shaker Heights with football blog

Editor's note: Shaker Heights lineman Tony Underwood, who has given an oral commitment to Ohio State, is taking readers inside his team's huddle by writing a blog for cleveland.com throughout the 2010 football season.

Hey, football fans.
Well, it's been a good week so far for me and the Shaker Raiders. Our first day back to school was pretty cool. Everyone that was injured is back healthy for the big test Friday night at Solon. We had a pretty good preseason for the most part and are putting the finishing touches on our game plan.

As a team, we have one main motto that we use, which is "Bringing back the tradition.'' We as a team have struggled for the past few years in our focus and approach to the game. Our coach wants us to come together as a team and help bring back the tradition of Shaker Heights football.

I'm very confident in my squad and believe that we will win games this year. To do this we must stay focused, execute, and have a short memory in the game when bad things happen. I'm very excited about my senior year and playing my last season with the Shaker boys. So to my Shaker Red Raiders, let's make this season count and prove all people who say we can't beat Solon or whatever other team wrong.
WE ALL WE GOT.
