Anderson junior offensive lineman Andrew Norwell has orally committed to play football at Ohio State, Anderson coach Jeff Giesting told the Enquirer this afternoon.
Norwell, who is 6 feet 7 and 270 pounds, also considered Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Illinois.
Giesting said Norwell wanted to make his decision so he could focus on the rest of the Anderson basketball season and get ready for the fall.
"I think he has been to Columbus at least three times and when Ohio State offered him - they went to the top of his list," Giesting said.
"He is excited about the opportunity to join a program that offers the chance to play for a national championship and offers a great education."
Norwell is the second area player to make an oral commitment from the 2010 class. Northwest junior LB Preston Brown has orally committed to UC.
Norwell, who was a Division II first-team all-state selection last season, had offers that included UC, Indiana, Illinois, Notre Dame and Duke.
Norwell, who was an Enquirer first-team all-area selection, is rated the state?s No. 6 player in the 2010 class by Ohio High Magazine.
"I feel he is the best offensive lineman to come out of Anderson," Giesting said. "He has the potential to be one of the best offensive linemen ever to come out of Ohio."
Norwell is the third player to orally commit to the Buckeyes from the 2010 class. The others are Youngstown Boardman defensive end J.T. Moore and Youngstown Ursuline defensive end Jamel Turner.

Norwell is absolutely nasty (perhaps Brewster-nasty) and that is why I'm going to say I like him a bit more than Adams at this stage. Anyways, my reviews are further back. As cb40 said, barring Norwell getting shafted for the early commitment, he should be a top 10 player in the country. This is a HUGE commitment, regardless of how expected it was. Welcome aboard Andrew...now let's add a James and a Henderson

Congrats and welcome aboard, Andrew.
Peace.
