Mizzou over Oklahoma ... here's how
The expected return of defensive end Aldon Smith would go a long way in helping Missouri put up the defensive performance it needs to beat Oklahoma.
QUESTION: If you were to name one key to Mizzou beating Oklahoma Saturday night, what would it be?

More than likely, the key will be the turnover battle. MU is good at it, 19th in the nation in turnover margin, but Oklahoma is great at it at second in the land. Mizzou has won 28 straight games in which it has gained more turnovers than it?s given up. That being said, it?s hard for me not to think the most important thing simply is limiting OU?s big plays. The Tiger defense has done a good job of that most of the season, but nothing would be more demoralizing or say ?same old Mizzou? more than seeing the Sooners uncork a few explosive plays early.

This game will be the biggest test of the Mizzou defense. Far too often, the OU game is decided by an overpowering Sooner offensive line dominating a smallish defensive front, allowing the QB to make sport of an inexperienced and athletically weak secondary.
This is the first MU defense I?ve seen in a while that seems to have the right balance of talent in the front seven and equally matched speedy and athletic defensive backs. This is also the first Oklahoma team we?ve seen in a while that is not being quarterbacked by a future Pro Bowl talent. Will this finally even the playing field?

This Mizzou team has taken a big step defensively. They have outstanding Big 12-caliber athletes on that side of the ball. They have throttled most of their opponents to date. The Sooners don?t have Sam Bradford anymore. If Mizzou can earn key defensive stops and force a few timely turnovers, they could finally score a breakthrough victory over Oklahoma.
TOM TIMMERMANN
If Mizzou does anything on Saturday, they have to limit Oklahoma?s scoring. Oklahoma has scored more than 30 points in six of its last seven games with Mizzou, and if that happens again, it will be tough for the Tigers. (And in that seventh game, Oklahoma scored 26.) If Mizzou is in a position where it needs to score five touchdowns to win, I don?t see it happening. Mizzou has done well at forcing turnovers and Oklahoma has done well at not turning the ball over, and whoever comes out ahead there will have the edge. The Mizzou defense will need to make some things happen. It looks like the Tigers will get Aldon Smith back, so that?s a plus.
