Ohio University to play Ohio State in 2008

I hope this game can be competitive, at least for the first half. I have a feeling though that it will end up like OSU's game against Can't State. In case anyone needs a good laugh, check out OU's (yes, I am an alum and I refer to us as OU) fan board, BobcatAttack.com
Check out the Football board. Sadly, there are usually 2-3 OSU bashing threads in the top threads. Some people have a real problem w/ letting things go.

It will probably be a tune up game in preparation for USC. I would expect we'll be more focused on making sure timing is good and people know their tasks than running up the score. If we are already solid it could be pretty bad though.

I'm not sure how I missed this. I was just looking at the 2008 schedule today and saw the game. Obviously, I think that Solich has done a good job with the program at OU, which really suffered after Grobe left. Who am I kidding? It suffered before Grobe arrived as well. Anyway, Frank hasn't been asleep at the wheel. Last season was a huge step forward, even though 2007 has been disappointing. It's kind of funny to be disappointed with a Bobcat team hovering around .500.
That is kind of funny. I graduated from OU in 1991. It seemed like they'd always lose by giving up significant leads in the 4th quarter. They'd have a punt blocked and a turnover deep in their own territory and suddenly it's 35-33 instead of 33-21. Everybody was like wtf just happened. It seems like similar things have happened this year just from scoreboard watching. The Wyoming game, for instance.

Under Solich, the Bobcats have played in big OOC matchups and really haven't come close to putting a scare into anyone. This isn't Fresno State. The biggest win was against a unranked Pitt team in 2005, in Athens, on an overtime pick-6. Most people probably remember that one. Most people probably don't remember that OU got hammered the week before by Northwestern, and hammered the week after by #4 Virginia Tech (45-0).

In 2006, trips to Rutgers and Missouri yielded 24-7 and 31-6 losses respectively, and a bowl game with Southern Miss, which was essentially a road game, also resulted in a 28-7 loss. This season's best OOC win was against La-Laf, followed by losses at VT and a 1-point home loss to Wyoming.
The Bobcats stayed right with Florida for 3 quarters, some recent season. Heh, I think it Zook's last year there. 2004, maybe? And one of Bill Snyder's good KSU teams beat OU by only a few points several years ago. I remember that was a bonified scare and the Florida game was on the brink of it.

The band rocks the house. I went to some games in Athens just to see them at halftime.

We were there through a lot of the same years. It was rough, but if you drank enough you got through.

Both the Kansas and Florida games were under Brian Knorr, I am almost positive. I do remember the Florida game, because I was trying to watch it out of the corner of my eye at a Damon's while watching OSU. That would have been a program changing win.

I've been hoping that Solich would bring a giant-killer mentality to Athens, but I think that in order to build that you first have to get to the point where you're regularly hammering your conference foes the way that Boise State, Fresno State and Hawaii do. Still, I like the schedule ambition. The 'cats generally play a real football power every year, unlike the old days when a "big" game was against a medicore Minnesota team or 6-5 WVU, or worse yet, struggling with the Richmond Spiders of the world.

I wish Ohio was a better team and we play them more because then maybe it could turn into a rivalry like the MSU and Michigan one.

Many of us have family ties in Athens, Logan, and surrounding areas and respect Ohio University. But that said, we're talking about a team that lags behind four-loss Youngstown State in the Sagarins. Ohio U will get worse, not better, with a resurgent Cincinnati competing for recruits.

While it may seem to make sense financially in the short-term to schedule in-state teams like these guys, it hurts our SOS and poll rankings when we put more than one of these easy games on the schedule. Again, with the greatest of respect, I think this was a real mistake.

I was at the Florida game in 2002. The Bobcats were up 3-0 before a lightning delay, but ended up losing 34-6. The Bobcats have had a few nice OOC wins over the years.
2000 23-17 over Minnesota in Mnpls
2004 28-16 over UK in Lexington
2006 20-17 over Illinois in Champaign

The Kansas St. game was back in 97, a 23-20 loss.

The legislature, as a condition of their share of the Ohio Stadium renovation, mandated that we bring one (1) in-state school into Ohio Stadium for the following ten years. This was a perfectly reasonable proposal that has been taken to ridiculous extremes; a trend that hopefully bottomed out with this year's schedule.

Loading up on in-state MAC schools combined with the perceived weakness of the Big Ten is not a recipe for national respect, regardless of playing one marquee opponent each season.

I don't know any other school that plays more than 1 tough OOC game. Next year is USC so I think we're set.

BobcatAttack.com - For Fans of Ohio University Sports

LMMFAO! It's their "rivalry week" and the first page of their board has a "How Bad do You Hate Ohio State" poll. That's rich. They just might be giving miamicirclejerk.com a run for its money when it comes to whiny bitterness. Although, the current hands-down, undisputed champion of Ohio State hate in the state right now has to be the President of Akron. He's just a buffoon in search of a microphone.

Funny that, because if I could nominate just one school for generally playing more than one tough OOC game it would USC. (It isn't 'SC's fault that this year Nebraska sucks wind and ND has the worst developed group of frosh through Juniors in their history).

This, to me, would be an ideal OOC schedule.

1 marquee home and home game--maybe two every few years or so

1 mid-tier BCS school (Rutgers, Texas Tech, Washington State, Stanford) as a home game or maybe a 2 for 1 deal

1 mid-major from outside our region on a 2:1 or 3:1 basis that, in the away game, would give the program some recruiting exposure and/or provide a good trip for the alumni (San Diego State, Nevada, UNLV)

1 Ohio team--always at home (2 every third year; that way every football school in the state, including YSU, gets a payday once every six years.)

i see everyone saying they hope it's a good game.. I don't. OU fans seem to be a-holes always cryin' and shit. I really hope we stomp a hole in them and make them never want to come back to the shoe. All other in-state schools, i enjoy.. OU not so much.
