So crunch time now... With the cheeseweasels scrapping out a win on Sunday against Minnesota... we have the following situation for the race for a B1G title:
Wisconsin: 11-0
Ohio St: 15- 1
Nebraska: 12-2
Minnesota: 11-2
So tie-breaker is winning percentage, so as long as we play all four remaining matches, we will have the most matches played and therefore the higher winning percentage over any of these (and no one else can catch Wisconsin). Here is how everyone finishes their season..
Wisconsin: @ PSU x2, v TTUN x2
Ohio St: v. Pur x2, @ IU x2
Nebraska: @ TTUN x2, v. PSU x2
Minnesota: @ NW x2, v. Iowa x2
Looking at out schedule, there is at most 2 losses there (against Purdue) as Indiana is terrible. Since they are at home, I think it's safe to assume worst case scenario is 1-1, which puts us above Nebraska and Minnesota. Drop both of them and we're basically out of the running. That's because Minnesota should rather easily win out. So two losses puts us below them regardless of what happens elsewhere.
Now we can look at Nebraska. They need to win out and have us lose twice to pass us. I really don't see that happening as they have a tougher schedule against two decent squads. Especially since PSU could be playing for their tournament lives in that last weekend and the Huskers might not have much to play for (they are locked in to the tournament). I think they drop one match from these last four and end up 15-3. Even if they win out, I still think we end up above them.
So now we can look upwards at Wisconsin. The cheeseweasels have played the least after basically having a month off from COVID (that they got from Sparty... stupid Sparty). They have a really similar schedule to Nebraska, but have the harder home/away split. All we need is for them to drop one match and we control our destiny. I think it is super possible for them to lose one of the two matches at PSU this weekend. They looked hella rusty and rough on Sunday and probably shoulda lost to Minnesota. If they somehow drop both matches, we are firmly in the driver's seat for our first conference title since 1994.
The volleyball community wants to put a giant asterisk on this season's championship... but screw them. If we win this, this will be the greatest accomplishment of this program for about 20 years.
