We've barely beaten Maryland twice (at home in 5) who is sitting tied for 12th (1-8), Iowa (2-7) twice and one went to 5, Michigan St (2-5) twice before the back to back quality wins over PSU (3-3 and probably WAY overrated at #8) and Illinois (2-5). So.... we've beaten no one I would consider "elite" in the B1G... heck with the shrunken tournament this year we are still VERY much on the bubble. We have a pretty brutal run near the end of the year... Considering this is Jill's first team, and they are SUPER young, a Top 5/6 finish would be incredible, but may not actually get an NCAA tournament bid with the format allocation has this year.

Still... this team is HELLA entertaining (young and like 5 set thrillers... comeback queens) and super talented. Keep an eye on this program, it's on the way up.

I’m not suggesting they should be in the top-10. But to be undefeated, with a win over a top-10 team, and have less votes than an 0-3 team is ludicrous.

They’re now 9-0 after winning at Illinois again today, 15-11 in the 5th. I’m sure they’ll be ranked in the next poll, it’ll be interesting to see if they jump into the top 20.

Eh, the AVCA poll is notorious for poll inertia. Takes forever to break in and you gotta really earn your drop out. They for sure will be ranked, but if they break the Top 20, it'll be BARELY. I'm thinking around 23 or 22. Most non-AVCA polls had us around 22-23 before this past week. The AVCA is ALWAYS slower to respond to trends in a season

PSU is not a Top 10 team (they are more around our level of high teens to low 20's) and they will settle in there after being overrated to start the season.

Again, our resume is pretty crappy right now. Not only do we only have 1 win that is worth anything (which is at home in 5 sets) but we have had a TON of 5 set wins over pretty mediocre to bad teams. We are super inconsistent (mostly due to our youth) but have a real knack and scrap to claw out victories in matches that we have no business winning (we also piss away sets... see the 5 straight errors we gave to Illinois to give them the 2nd set on Friday).

This SHOULD be a straightforward weekend with two matches against a terrible Rutgers team in NJ... but we'll probably make a meal of it, hopefully not losing to that dumpster-fire of a program... but after that is ROUGH. @PSU, #5 Minn x2, @ #4 Neb x2. We probably need to pick up a match in that group of 5 to keep our NCAA bid alive. TTUN x2, Purdue x2 following are not cakewalks either, but we are capable of 3/4... finish off with @ Ind x2 and we should win both of those. If we can finish the season at 15-5 with wins over PSU, Pur, TTUN, and one of PSU/Minn/Neb, I think we get a bid in the shrunken NCAA tournament. Fail to pick up one of those upsets or drop games we shouldn't and our no post-season streak continues (unfortunately... cause in MOST years, that is definitely good enough for a bid)

Ended up at 19th in the AVCA... which is a big jump from RV (then again a 3-0 week and win over a ranked team in that is a good week)

PSU being 10th is low key terrible though... no way should they still be a top 10 team with that resume. I also think Purdue is a bit underrated. I'd flip the two.

Continuing to go to 5 sets... against every level of opponent.

This was not a great weekend as Rutgers is NOT good... but somehow we're still unbeaten and sit alone atop the B1G standings. I would be SHOCKED if we stayed there, but it's really nice to basically have eliminated any chances of picking up a really bad loss (unless we lose to Indiana in the final set of matches... but the Hoosiers are DREADFUL). Now we have a stretch of good to elite teams and need to pick up just a respectable amount of wins and we should be in good shape for the NCAA tournament.

Yeah, the #19* Buckeyes are 11-0 in the B1G, but the #1* team (i.e. Wisconsin) is just behind at 10-0. However, Wisconsin is not on our B1G schedule and the B1G does not sponsor a postseason tournament in volleyball. B1G Champion is determined by the regular season results.

We've still got @ Nebraska (x2), v. Minnesota (x2), @ PSU, and v. Purdue (x2) that are all Top 15 opponents... I'd be SHOCKED if we came through that unscathed enough to win the title.

Just an epic run we are on right now with a sweep AT Penn State.... Let's talk about that win in historical context...

- Last time Ohio State swept PSU in volleyball was in 2006 in Columbus (back when sets were 30 pts)
- Last time Ohio State won at PSU was in 2004 (5 setter)
- Last time Ohio State swept PSU at PSU was in 2001
- Last time Ohio State won both matches against PSU in a season was also 2001

This is incredible. Yes... PSU this year is not the monster machine it has been under Russ Rose... but still. Incredible.

Now we've got #5 Minnesota rolling into town and we've got to play 3 matches in 4 days. A split is probably the most optimistic goal of the weekend, but winning both these matches puts us easily in the Top 10 and a really strong position to make the NCAA Tournament and make a run at the B1G title... which is absurd.

Gotta love BP for ALL the coverage of tOSU athletics that I would normally miss. Great season, harkens back to the 70's when tOSU women's basketball was great. Nowadays, women's volleyball seems to flow through PSU, and Nebraska. Go Bucks!
