Game Thread Ohio State vs UNLV, 09/23/17 @ 12:00 ET (BTN)

Apparently Michael Drake is interviewed on 97.1 The Fan during halftime of every football game. I didn't check the radio during halftime of the OU game but he's been on for each of the other three games. I can't think of anyone I'm less interested in hearing from during the game. The result is I'm not listening to the radio during halftime anymore. I used to like to do that.

Because heaven forbid the university give a little time to its President (who is doing an outstanding job) to talk about the actual university.

JT did look good, but it;s against UNLV, who is clearly terrible. I still will give JT credit and hopefully this gets his confidence up going forward.

That being said, this is what we all knew would happen. He would look good against bums that we play in this stretch, but to me I still don't feel he is the guy who could lead us to a Big Ten Playoff win or shot at the CFB playoff. I would love to be wrong, I love the guy and what he has done at OSU, but this to me is likely false hope coming out. I really hope I am wrong, and I will gladly eat crow if he goes onto play great football the rest of the way this year.

While I agree with pretty much all of what you're saying, I do think that our schedule this year did not set up well for a QB and new coordinator. Yeah, I know... right? 5th year senior... but he's been through how many OCs and QB coaches? And for a couple of years his QB coach was an absolute zero as far as I can tell.

And yes, the level of competition here isn't great, but I'd suggest that had this game been moved in front of OK, it would have given the offense a chance to get on the same page a bit earlier and work out some of those timing issues. Balls thrown over heads notwithstanding... It's was just a rough way to get sync'd up this year.

I do think that OK will be the best team we play until January this year. Hopefully they continue to grow until then.

And with all that, I'd be a huge liar liar pants on fire if I didn't admit that I'm really looking forward to seeing what this team looks like next year. The DBs getting a solid year under their belt. Receivers getting better and Simba or Joey spinning it will make for some fun for sure. Losses on the D-line look like they can be absorbed with the pups... the only real concern is what we do with the Oline.

I agree for the most part... if we throw this much then yeah I still think we struggle against PSU. We need to run the ball more with JT and use his strengths with RPO as well as zone read. This game plan we have today would be a bad idea playing PSU or the other schools who play defense
I think as long as the staff knows we're gonna win the game, we're gonna see a lot of throwing in the hopes that boosting the confidence of the QBs and receivers will help...and I get that. But yeah, if we're trotting out pass happy gameplans against the better defenses down the road, we're probably gonna have some sludge farts.

Only downside to the first half was that JT was not able to work on the long ball.
JT was sharp otherwise
Hill and Campbell beginning to separate themselves from the other receivers
Dobbins is beyond special. Really hope he gets 200+ rushing yards today
Defense playing stellar
Two INT's. Could have been more.
Special teams looking good with the exception of our kicker on kickoffs
Hoping McCall sees a lot of action this 2nd half
