That VT front 7 presented issues mostly because of a scheme for which the Buckeyes were unprepared. We saw that same front on a weekly basis up to and including the Oregon game and dealt with it just fine, against better personnel.
I think that roster does prove one point though. The only guy on it more than 290 lbs went undrafted and currently plays in the CFL at 285.
Dremont Jones is under 290 and has a good chance of going in the first round.
It is not the size difference alone that is the issue. I'm not sure if there are many on this board who believe that. Message boards are basically verbose twitter: we are not stating our entire case, nor should we be expected to.
This Saturday will only be one step toward the Buckeye OL proving that they are what we've been told they are. This will not be dispositive one way or the other. If they fail, they may learn from it and get better like in 2014. If they succeed, they will still have to play better DL down the road.
What we do know is that Ohio State fans have good reasons to be optimistic.
We think the OL is better than theirs. They didn't score on offense vs SMU until almost half way through the 3rd quarter; that's a better reason to believe that the Buckeyes are better than numbers on a depth chart, but even that isn't proof of anything. It was after an agonizing weather delay, and we know first hand how that can mess with the superior team. They even gave up a long run shortly after the delay that looked eerily similar to ours, complete with a missed tackle by a defensive lineman.
We think our DL is better than theirs. Because we're not blind.
We think our QB is better than theirs. Because we're not stupid.
We're hoping our defensive back 7 has learned something since the Katastrophe at Kinnick. Because wishful thinking.
If the back 7 questions don't rear their ugly heads this Saturday, I have to agree with Jax. This may be a beatdown.

PRESSER BULLETS: RYAN DAY, GREG SCHIANO PREVIEW OHIO STATE'S SATURDAY CLASH WITH TCU
With preparation for this weekend's trip to Dallas well underway, Ohio State acting head coach and offensive coordinator Ryan Day and associate head coach and defensive coordinator Greg Schiano met with the media once again on Monday to recap this past Saturday's 52-3 win over Rutgers and look ahead to this upcoming Saturday's primetime clash with TCU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Here's what you need to know from each of their Q&A sessions:

With preparation for this weekend's trip to Dallas well underway, Ohio State acting head coach and offensive coordinator Ryan Day and associate head coach and defensive coordinator Greg Schiano met with the media once again on Monday to recap this past Saturday's 52-3 win over Rutgers and look ahead to this upcoming Saturday's primetime clash with TCU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Here's what you need to know from each of their Q&A sessions:
Ryan Day
- On Ohio State's offense: "The rhythm has been good."
- On TCU's defense: "They make quick adjustments. They know exactly how you're trying to attack. Very, very talented group as well. They have a lot of veterans back there."
- Day said Urban Meyer has "had a huge amount of input" in game planning even though he still isn't allowed to coach on Saturdays.
- On J.K. Dobbins: "Great personality. Very, very competitive ... He's a very likable kid, but he works really, really hard." Says Dobbins and Mike Weber are pushing each other in the running backs room.
- How have things gone smoothly without Meyer? "The culture of our team."
- Day said Haskins has the authority to make changes at the line of scrimmage in both the passing game and running game, and that Haskins has a good handle on that.
- On Tate Martell's performance Saturday: "Nothing he did surprised us ... As we've said before, we plan to play Tate. How much kind of depends on the game moving forward."
- Day said Meyer's feedback to him today after Saturday's win was to make sure they don't overlook their mistakes as they prepare for tougher games. "We have to make corrections. And we got to be critical of ourselves moving forward."
- "I don't think there's any one thing," Day said of areas in which his offense needs to improve after scoring 129 points in the first two games, but said the overall execution still needs to improve as competition gets tougher.
- On the offensive line: "Overall, it's been solid." Said communication has consistently improved and Michael Jordan has "done a nice job" in move to center.
- Day said the Buckeyes are asking Haskins to read a defender – sometimes a defensive end, sometimes a linebacker, sometimes a safety – on mostly every play.
- After Cleveland.com's Doug Lesmerises told Day that he has been getting in "Twitter fights" about when Martell enters the game, "You shouldn't be getting in Twitter fights with people."
- On TCU coach Gary Patterson: "One of the best coaches in the past 20 years of college football."
- On punt returners C.J. Saunders and Demario McCall: "They're both dynamic in different ways." Didn't give any indication as to whether the Buckeyes would favor either punt returner going forward.
- On his experience as acting head coach: "It's been a huge learning experience for me going through it on a day-to-day basis."
- On preparing for every game: "If you don't think it's a big game, try losing it."
- "(TCU's) team speed is excellent. They're fast, they're constantly running to the ball."
- "I think that, when you play in big games, you have to take care of the football. Every play is so much more important. But we're going to be who we are. We've gotta focus on us. If we play the way we know we can play, that's going to give us the best chance to win."

GREG SCHIANO, RYAN DAY EXPECTING TCU'S TEAM SPEED, SKILL TO CHALLENGE OHIO STATE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL
During the first two Monday press conferences of Ohio State’s season, there wasn’t much talk about the actual opponents the Buckeyes would be facing those weeks, as it was widely (and correctly) predicted that they would make easy work of Oregon State and Rutgers.
This Monday, however, many of the questions fielded by Ohio State acting head coach and offensive coordinator Ryan Day and associate head coach and defensive coordinator Greg Schiano were about the No. 4-ranked Buckeyes’ upcoming opponent, as they’re expected to face their first real test of the year against No. 15 TCU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday (8 p.m., ABC).
While the Buckeyes are double-digit favorites to win Saturday’s game, both Day and Schiano expect the units they oversee to be in for a real challenge this week.
TCU’s offense, which ranks 14th in the nation through two games with 48.5 points scored per game, is led by quarterback Shawn Robinson, who Schiano described as “a really good player who is multi-dimensional.”
“He can run, he can throw, he's a strong-arm guy,” Schiano said of Robinson.
Robinson is the first real running threat the Buckeyes have faced from the quarterback position this year, which is an added variable that puts extra stress on Schiano and Ohio State’s defense in their preparation for this week.
“It changes all the math,” Schiano said. “When the quarterback carries the ball, and can do it well, then the defensive math changes. And really, playing good defense is getting people to the point of attack and then making the tackle. So when the quarterback runs it, you need to get another guy to the point of attack.
“And then on the passing downs, if he has the ability to scramble, you have to account for that,” Schiano continued. “And what I've noticed … he scrambles, but he scrambles first to throw it down the field. Then, when he decides to go, he’s a really good runner. Very good runner. But it's not where he just tucks it to run right away. So we're going to have to hold coverage when he does start to move out of the pocket, and then be ready once he crosses the line of scrimmage to come up and try to get him down, which is easier said than done. He's a 230-pound man who runs very well.”
