Game Thread Ohio State vs TCU (Arlington, TX) - 09/15/18, 8:00PM (ABC)

Every non B1G team's messageboard that I've visited for an upcoming game has always had the one guy who says something along the lines of this guy:It's bizarre how, without fail, I'll see that same message with just the team name changed. It's also kind of telling that a team ranked 15th who likes to fashion themselves as a big boy Big12 team posts the same things as Kent St and Bowling Green.
Yeah, I cannot fault people for having faith in their team, even when odds seem against them.

PS: It happens on every B1G message board as well, including this one.

Bingo. Not sure why people are ripping on the TCU front. They're a Big XII team that in recent years has beaten Stanford, Wisconsin, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Oregon, while standing toe-to-toe in losses to Georgia, LSU, and Michigan St. This isn't a mid-major with some gimmicky system.

Toss in Gordon Gee's stupidity with the 2014 playoff snub and Patterson's got bulletin board material for days. They'll be ready.
They lost 4 of their front 7 from that group including 3 on their starting line (that included the injury to their starting tackle) to go along with 2 more in the secondary.

Oh and they lost 10 on offense so to say this is a much different group is an understatement.

I fully expect them to come out fired up but I also expect experience/talent to prevail.

As for them believing they'll win? Good. They should because they love their team. If I ever get to the point where I don't believe in Ohio State I'll stop watching.

I can fault people for not being able to rationally look at things. "I think we'll win because I like us" is one of the dumber things I see on a regular basis....even if "us" is Ohio State.

OK but again both TCU's lines are bigger than ya'lls. Thanks for the correction I hadnt actually typed ya'll in years just thought I would spice it up for yous guys(?). Anyway, that guys #'s for weights are wrong or made up not sure which, but the point is the entire thread had beed about how much bigger your line is and then, whoops, someone, everyone forgot to actually check the measurements. Funny stuff, then to watch you guys try and backtrack is funny too. But yea glad ya'll realize it was an invitational, TCU was the best team that year, perhaps not this year we shall see, but certainly that year as our one common opponent spoke clearly on that.

Ohio state has a small oline, probably smaller than all the olines in the big12 other than Kansas. Hopefully Cumbie just runs right at ya'll, 8 yards and a cloud of dust, tried and true formula. BTW did you guys see that Kansas is favored against Rutgers? thats cra cra.

Hi all, looking forward to the game and some chatter. One thing to quickly point out is that it is not really fair to say TCU lost 10 on offense, as they return their top-2 WRs and top-2 RBs, as well as one OL, so it is really more like losing 6. Still a big hit, but not quite losing the entire offense other than one OL.

1) The line discussion was just fan silliness. How good they are matters a lot more. Landers & Jones are a matchup problem despite their size, while true frosh Togiai is the only ox that can collapse the pocket consistently (there are other solid ones, but size does not equal excellence). OSU has some fatter guys on the bench if that would make it better somehow.

I'm curious how that 340 lber is going to do against Bosa.

2) You continue to not discuss the DL (where you have some pretty light ends)

3) In the actual matchup (OL vs front 7), TCU fields some crazy small guys at the second level. Schematically you replace a LB with a safety, yet your LBs are also sized like safeties.

Too early to judge your defense. I always respected Patterson's athletic defenses back in the day which were full of unheralded athletes. It seems like once their offense took off 3-4 years ago, the defense turned into a typical B12 matador defense for many years (though it was better last year).

This is also not a typical OSU defense so far. Really athletic DL, but LB and S continues to be a work in progress. Also they've lost about a billion high draft picks at DB (most 1-3 years early), so there are some growing pains there (Okudah will be very good, but he's young for now).

It is crazy that Kansas is favored over anyone. Please tell me you're not trying to say anything more than that.

We do welcome outsiders that can talk football. We used to get tons of them, and had great pregame chatter, especially 10 years ago when OkSU and Tx were on the schedule. Since then they've played SEC teams, Miami, Washington, VT resulting in very few credible outsiders either due to volume or immaturity.

We're also elitist jerks sometimes. If you can have tough skin, and let the barbs roll off you , this can be a good place to discuss football.

What are things that concern you heading into this game?
What are things you feel that TCU does well that will give OSU problems?

Wrong. You could look up stats too.

First B12 team alphabetically is Baylor
1,525 lbs

How that has anything to do with this game is beyond me.

BTW how the hell are you calling an o line that averages 313 lbs small?

The TCU o line is 316lbs on average...

3 pounds lighter is small? JFC you’re really reaching troll.

Just thought I'd add the weights from each team's official site. Doesn't mean much anyway.

Only one offensive line is going to be lining up against 3 potential 1st round picks.

So you lost 4 up front on offense and 3 up front on defense from last year. Just not a great look honestly.

I'll be shocked if your tackles who both go 330+ will have the athleticism to match up with our ends.

Also what has been pointed out is that you have two LBs under 215 and all are under 220. Where as OSU has LBs similar in size to your defensive ends.

Bottom line is you guys lost 7 of 9 up front on both sides of the ball. Its not that I question can TCU win because I think they could but I just don't see how TCU holds up for a whole game.

To make it worse that exact same line has 1 returning starter from last season. IMO a lot is working against TCU.

TCUs skill is scary I admit but hard to make plays if you aren't matching up well up front.
