I certainly thought of that as I read the piece above but this is an offense with a diversified array of skill talent — unlike Wisconsin’s. Just saying that if we allow scores early they can sell out against the run and that’s where things might get dicey.
Not trying to be negative, but just saying bad starts can be hard to overcome if it goes that route. We still haven’t had to see Fields carry the burden of defeating a defense through the air. While some are likely confident we could, we still haven’t seen it.
Last 2 games for their pass defense
Tanner Morgan 18/20 339 Yards
Peyton Ramsey 31/41 371 Yards
its not good........
The run will come easy if we are able to come out early and hit some gashers through the air.
I'm just sayin, a "near miss" sounds like a collision, no? Holy shit! Did you see those cars crash? Sure did. But, they nearly missed.
I have always thought the same thing: I think a "near hit" would be a miss, so it would make sense for a "near miss" to be a hit.
You just brought up horrible memories of the 2013 OSU defense. Top 10 Rush Defense because opponents could roll out of bed and put up 400+ passing yards against them.Look at it this way; who have they played that is good at running and they held to well below their average?
Maryland 55th in the country at 4.4 ypc
Minny is 67th at 4.2
tsun is 70th at 4.1
IU is 84th at 3.9 ypc
Penn State held them all to below their, very pedestrian, averages but all of them except tsun went for well over 300 yards through the air.
Sometimes a defense has a crazy low number against the run or the pass because they are so bad at defending the other one, teams don't waste a lot of time trying it.
Low and behold, PSU is 112th in the nation at opponents pass attempts per game (35.9), meaning only 18 teams in all college football see more pass attempts per game.

Pedant that I am…
I believe the phrase “a near miss” refers to a close call as opposed to “a far miss”. I’m often wrong, so, grains of salt ‘n such.
Alternative definition: If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.
I want to say Pitt went for something like 370 on them as well but not 100% sure.
Regardless, the PSU pass defense is highly suspect and they haven't faced as balanced or talented attack as OSU's to date.
Only thing that keeps OSU from scoring 42+ is the weather.
I almost forgot to click the link, so I nearly missed that fun.Oh, you are definitely correct in your definition of the phrase. My post was just to note my own longstanding agreement with BKB's comment, that based on the meanings of its component words "near" and "miss", it seems backwards and is dumb.
Edit: More fun here! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Near_miss_(safety)
True, if they were to win a game like this, then something akin to “The Rail” is created and they also get the year listed in The Ring of Pretty Good Seasons.Nah this is typical Penn State fandom. If it looks like it's supposed to be a blowout, they turn all "Oh gee...I hope we just keep it close." Then when they somehow fall backwards into a close game, or heaven help me a win, the gloating is never ending. When it turns into 2013 they just don't say a word.
