SKULL SESSION: MICAH PARSONS HAS NO HATE FOR OHIO STATE, COREY DENNIS IS OHIO STATE'S SECRET WEAPON, AND EVAN TURNER CROSSES UP LEBRON JAMES

“THERE'S NO HATE.”
From his rocky recruitment and strained relationship with the Ohio State coaching staff, to his extremely public NCAA violation on Ohio State's campus, to the fact that he has a dog named after Ohio State's mascot, Micah Parsons has a rather... interesting relationship with the Buckeyes.

Parsons obviously didn't end up at Ohio State and obviously had the opposite of a delightful experience in the recruiting process, but through all of it, he has no hate for the Buckeyes, especially when it comes to the players, namely J.K. Dobbins and Chase Young. And he still thinks about what it would have been like to play for the Buckeyes.

“Those are my boys,” Parsons said of the two Buckeyes. “I have no hate for anybody in the game. I appreciate all those who add to the game.”

...

“I just talked with J.K. a couple of weeks ago on Instagram: ‘Keep ballin’, man,’ ” Parsons said. “Obviously, he went up as the third-best rusher (in Ohio State history). Things like that. We should support our athletes across the country. There’s no hate.”

Parsons said that at times he thinks what might have been had he ended up in Columbus. It’s a thought, he admitted, that even crossed his mind the day he finally signed with Penn State after taking a circuitous route from Harrisburg to Happy Valley.

“Yeah, I do think about that sometimes,” Parsons said. “At The Opening with J.K. for an internship, Chase goes, ‘You almost came here.’ And I go, ‘Yeah, that would be dope if we was together.’

“But everything happens for a reason. I thought about ‘what’s ifs’ the day I committed, you know. It’s gonna happen. I thought about everything possible (and) I felt this was the best place for me.”

If were a Penn State fan, it might sit a little weird with me that the guy who might be the top player on your roster openly daydreams about what it would have been like to play for Ohio State instead, but hey, at least he's handling this week's questions well. There are absolutely worse things he could have said.

Sit back for a second and just imagine... this defense PLUS Micah Parsons.

I had no idea their run defense was that good. That effort against Rutgers won’t get it done on the ground.

That’s seriously a crazy number. Some stats are just really impressive irrespective of schedule — to me at least.

In perusing BWI and Audibles, I'm finding that their usual arrogance is missing when discussing this game. I'd put it at 90% of them don't think they have a shot and expect to get blown out.
Nah this is typical Penn State fandom. If it looks like it's supposed to be a blowout, they turn all "Oh gee...I hope we just keep it close." Then when they somehow fall backwards into a close game, or heaven help me a win, the gloating is never ending. When it turns into 2013 they just don't say a word.

Yeah...I’ve thought about that. But tbh, Malik Harrison is putting us similar, maybe even better numbers. They are very similar players.

Parsons
37 tackles
2 sacks

Harrison (much less reps)
35 tackles
4.5 sacks

But yeah, those two plus Werner and Browning at LB would be unreal.

Wisconsin had a top ranked rush defense too before they played the Buckeyes.:biggrin2:

I certainly thought of that as I read the piece above but this is an offense with a diversified array of skill talent — unlike Wisconsin’s. Just saying that if we allow scores early they can sell out against the run and that’s where things might get dicey.

Not trying to be negative, but just saying bad starts can be hard to overcome if it goes that route. We still haven’t had to see Fields carry the burden of defeating a defense through the air. While some are likely confident we could, we still haven’t seen it.

If Clifford has the time and the room to move around and make plays, it will be a close game. If we contain the pocket and pressure with 4, the Bucks will roll big.

3 and out them more than not. Keep their defense on the field, let the Oline and Dobbins/Teague pound on them.

PSU's pass defense is not good. They also aren't great at getting to the QB.

They are absolutely going to have to cheat to stop the run because their DL is undermanned but make no mistake, Day, Fields and the WR's are going to carve the PSU defense up.

EDIT

OSU > 40
PSU < 20

This is Indiana with some better skill players and LB's

That’s seriously a crazy number. Some stats are just really impressive irrespective of schedule — to me at least.

Look at it this way; who have they played that is good at running and they held to well below their average?

Maryland 55th in the country at 4.4 ypc
Minny is 67th at 4.2
tsun is 70th at 4.1
IU is 84th at 3.9 ypc

Penn State held them all to below their, very pedestrian, averages but all of them except tsun went for well over 300 yards through the air.

Sometimes a defense has a crazy low number against the run or the pass because they are so bad at defending the other one, teams don't waste a lot of time trying it.

Low and behold, PSU is 112th in the nation at opponents pass attempts per game (35.9), meaning only 18 teams in all college football see more pass attempts per game.

Never forget they called a time out to take extra time to get that play called.

I'm pretty sure that they called TWO timeouts, and they got the benefit of a Buckeye timeout, as well.

49:52 - 1:29 to go in the game, third and 14. Clock was stopped due to the incompletion on the previous play. Three time outs remaining for Penn State.
McSorely runs to 1:22 to go in the game - 9 yard gain to make it fourth and 5. The video then jumps ahead to where they're ready to snap the ball - still 1:22 to go, so they must have called 1 time out. Confirmed because they only have 2 time outs, at that point.
50:05 - whistles blow because Ohio State calls a time out.
50:22 - whistles blow, again.
50:24 - Video shows next play is set up, Penn State now has 1 time out remaining.
50:44 - Ball is finally snapped.

So they took three time outs plus another 20 seconds of shifting and changing the play to figure out what to do. And they take the ball out of the hands of the guy who has been wrecking Ohio State's defense all game to put it in the hands of a guy who Ohio State has contained, fairly well.
