Franklin: OSU Has ‘The Most Valuable Thing We Have On This Earth’

OSU-Nebraska-1170x780.jpg

For most fans of Ohio State and Penn State, the week leading up to their Saturday afternoon showdown in the Horseshoe probably feels like it will never end. With the Buckeyes coming off a bye week, the pregame anticipation in Columbus for #2 PSU and #6 OSU is reaching levels normally reserved for mid-level Michigan weeks.

But to Penn State coach James Franklin, that seemingly endless time is a feature, not a bug. Franklin’s team had the benefit of an off-week before they hosted Michigan last Saturday and made the most of it, and he knows Urban Meyer’s staff did the same with their off week.

“I think it helps a lot. There’s no doubt about it,” Franklin said. “You just have more time for everything. More time to recover, more time to get healthy, more time to watch film and plan. It’s valuable. I think it’s probably the most valuable thing we have on this earth is time and a bye week creates that.”

“I do think we handled our bye week good enough that we are still getting some residual effects two weeks later from how we handled the bye week two weeks ago,” Franklin said.

Covering the TE Gesicki and then Barkley in the pass game has me worried the most. D focus on Barkley and McWhorely and the TE will gash us like they have in the past. And our LB's haven't given any confidence in those coverage's this year. Hope this bye week has got everything covered. I believe it will. God damn I'm pumped for this game and it's only noon Wednesday.

I probably am just misunderstanding you, @Drubuck but Penn State's TE's haven't really been a particular problem for OSU in the past

2016 TEs went 4-46 no TDs long of 26
2015 TEs went 0-0
2014 TEs went 4-22 no TD, long of 8
1-3 no TDs (long of 3)
1-4 no TDs (long of 4)
2013 TEs went 0-0
2012 TEs went 2-21 1 TD long of 19
1-20 for no TDs

Kyle Brady probably gashed OSU in 94 though.

All that said, you're overall point about having to keep an eye on Gesicki is certainly true.

NEW GRAY JERSEYS ADD “SWAGGER” TO OHIO STATE'S MATCHUP WITH PENN STATE

Ohio State's new gray uniforms have taken the Buckeye football landscape by storm ever since Eleven Warriors first broke the news more than a week ago.

After the team released the new duds in their entirety yesterday, the Ohio State fan base appears to be warming up to the gray uniforms, as are the players.

Speaking for the first time since the athletic department released the new look, Jerome Baker said Tuesday that the jerseys bring an added excitement to an already big game.

"I love ‘em. I love wearing new jerseys. I love the LeBrons. Those are my favorite cleats ever," Baker, a Cleveland native, said. "I am excited to wear them, especially against Penn State. It adds a bit more swagger to you."

It's the kind of thing that, if you're gonna do it and talk about it, you damn sure better win the game.

Wasn't being specific to Penn St.

Yeah, but compared to what we are used to seeing from OSU TE's, that IS gashing.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I’m struggling right now. I don’t give a [Mark May] about anything else. I have 0 focus. These next two days might as well not even exist.
I was ready to explode Saturday night when it officially struck midnight and I knew it was game week again... I always say this before games and I for sure will say it before this one... I honestly have no idea how these kids aren't throwing up with nerves before the games. This is one of those games where shit even I feel sick with butterfly's before the game somehow

Went back to watch a quick 30min replay of the PSU/scUM game. I find it funny that O’Korn and the RB gashed them almost every time they took off on the ground, yet they refused to keep smashing in favor of trying to go through the air, which didn’t pay off at all.

O’Korn was getting time to get good looks, but still either took a sack from staying in the pocket too long or just flat out couldn’t find a receiver almost all night.

Penn State was struggling to stop them running the ball. Makes me feel good about Dobbins/Weber/JT racking up yards.

The fakes to Barkley with McSorley keeping it killed them all night as well on the other side of the ball. Barkley was bottled up pretty damn well after that first wildcat TD. McSorley must be pressured and contained or it will be a rough afternoon for the Bucks. The few times they were able to get after him resulted in him imploding.
