Game Thread Ohio State vs Penn State, 10/28/17 @ 3:30 ET (FOX)

Why the fuck do you call that play at that point? Why?

The dirty little secret is that checkdown to the RB isn't "the play", it's JT checking down. I appreciate his aversion to turnovers, but he's too cautious against good teams.

We can beat Rutgers doing that. It doesn't work against top quality opponents.

It comes down to not making crucial mistakes against great teams. Special teams isn't even a horse abortion right now. It's that thing Voldemort turns into at the end of Deathly Hallows part 2. ST is losing OSU this game, straight up. It's given PSU 7 points directly and the ball on the OSU 20 yard line the other time. Maybe PSU scores on those drives anyway, maybe they don't, but if you play a boxing match with one hand tied behind your back, you're going to get your ass beat no matter how talented and hyped you are.

The domino effect from having the ST errors has caused the DL to start over rushing and over pursuing, which is giving PSU drives life via scrambles. Can't have that. Games over if that keeps happening. D has to man up and stop them from here on out. That's a huge task and had to imagine, but it's the hard truth.

The offense has played well. They're on pace for 500 yards, and that's against a top defense and with the disappearance of the most dynamic player in Dobbins after the first 3 or 4 drives. But if ST and the DL don't settle down, it won't matter. If you can fix these 2 things though, and that's a HUGE if, you have a shot at coming back and making this an even game late in the 4th. If you can't, then it's a loss, and a bad loss at that. There's nothing else to be said.

This comes from the very top. Urban has said it himself - he WANTS JT to check down when the pass is contested. I don't foresee that changing, unfortunately

Let JT throw the ball.

In addition, JT has to let it loose. He tried to aim one to Dixon early that should've been an easy TD but was incomplete. He's too willing to take a check down to the RB, or a sack, when the downfield throw isn't 20 yards in the clear.
