Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

I mean, it's both at this point. The system of side-to-side passes for 1 half and desperate playcalling the 2nd is not conducive to QB play. But neither is a QB who limits your passing options to within 15 yards of the LOS.

Part of me wonders how much of JT's regression was Urban vs. Tim Beck the past few years. There are many articles stating how Urban strongly emphasizes not turning the ball over. I think he may have overdone it - JT is almost too scared to throw the ball now. He's overthinking everything. Anyways, none of us have an office in the Woody so it's all conjecture at this point. Hopefully the men who are paid the big bucks to figure this [Mark May] out, do so.

Everytime JT throws a screen he sends a telegraph to the entire nation that it's coming. He looks nowhere but right there. Anytime his first option to pass isn't there he's screwed. He is mentally out of it. I do believe he's better then this, but he looks completely overwhelmed right now. He is missing basic stuff that a decent qb has. Not to mention he just does not step up as a leader at all. He is contributing to the downfall more, then stepping up to be a leader. I had such high hopes for him by now. Players aren't supposed to get worse at OSU as time goes by. It's all kind of hard to fathom. This isn't the kind of stuff that can be fixed in a week. He looks paranoid, immediately, when the first option isn' there.

Urban just emphatically stated that he won't consider pulling JTBIV.

So we may as well move on from that; and it's by no means the end of the world. JT has issues, but we have issues to fix in every phase of the passing game. Solve the others and he's more than capable of carrying us. The future may well be in the wings, but that's for the future.

God, NFB, I get it. But who do we have on the bench who is better? You and the fan boys liking your post need to answer that, then ask yourself WTF it would do to keep Oklahoma to something less than 490 yards of offense?

Is JT flawed? FUCK YEAH! I'm not oblivious to that. But I'm also not going to lazily throw this debacle all on his back. Defense sucked. Receivers did nothing. It's easy to say put in the next QB, but there's no reason to assume he's better and the other problems go away if he comes in.

Wanna replace JT, have at it. Just don't be surprised if the other problems still persist, and maybe - just maybe - you end up with a few more.
Fuck this. The D was put in such a shitty position the entire game. The came up with 3 points for the half. That's a fucking miracle looking back at it. They march down the field and turn the ball over, we go 3 and out. They march down the field and we force a TO, the offense shits the fucking bed. This isn't a defensive problem.

I question how much of Urban's offense is actually being called. We didn't see any of the typical Hybrid position plays. We aren't setting up plays with the run. What has been lost is all the counters that Herman use to run, each set had plays that set up other plays.

I don't even know what kind of offense we are seeing out there now. Is it part JTs fault that he is scared to throw more than 10 yards now? Maybe but where is the running game or just the plays to get it in playmaker hands. We could have ran JT, Weber, and Dobbins all day with screens to Paris and the rest of the WRs and probably played 10x better.
