Ohio State vs James Madison 11/12/09

The Buckeyes will entertain James Madison thurs night at 7 pm.
The game will be broadcast on the BTN.
Let me just say that if James Madison wishes to be "entertained," they should focus their attention on Mark Titus and his Club Trillion blog.

The actual game will not resemble entertainment from the JM perspective so much as getting deluged by a 5,000-gallon tank of whoopass.

Jeesh. Bad time to be a Central Ohioan playing for JMU.

James Madison will be without guard Devon Moore of Northland when it plays the Ohio State men's basketball team Thursday in Value City Arena. Moore, a sophomore, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a scrimmage Sunday and is out for the season, a school spokesman said.

Freshman center Trevon Flores, a former Eastmoor Academy player, suffered a broken nose in the same scrimmage but will attempt to play with a facemask.

A third central Ohioan, Eric Beard of Reynoldsburg, has not been cleared to play because of an irregular heartbeat.

JMU quick breakdown

The Dukes return nine of their top ten players from a team that went 21-15 in 2008-2009, with a Pomeroy ranking of 140. Their biggest wins were over Seton Hall and Belmont. James Madison was knocked out in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament by eventual CAA champion George Mason after finishing 9-9 in conference. They played in a post season tournament called the "CollegeInsiders.com" tournament, losing in the third round to Old Dominion, 81-43.

JMU brings a medium sized lineup, ranging from 6-3 guards to 6-7 inside. Nearly 70% of their points come from the forwards and center positions. Having Dallas back will be important on defense. Last season, they shot 50% from 2-point, 35% from 3-point, and 75% from the line. Their top three point shooter was a senior, and they're only returning one player with a significant number of three point shots and attempts. Looking through last season's results, they scored a season low of 54 and a high of 90, with typical games being around 70. Generally speaking, they seem to be a pretty good defensive team, though they did give up 99 to Davidson in the season.

What to expect:

James Madison is going to be a solid step up from Alcorn State and makes for a much better tune-up game going into Madison Square Garden than does UNC's opponent tonight (North Carolina Central). The Dukes won't be putting up a lot of threes, and look like a team that on paper should be a good test of our new-fangled man-to-man defense. I like the potential for Dallas Lauderdale to have a big game if he's healthy and gets minutes, because James Madison doesn't have anyone inside with the physical size to challenge him. JMU has decent side on the perimeter for a small conference team, so it will be interesting to see how well they defend our shooters, but I expect that Buford, Diebler and Turner will still have big games.

Predicted score: 85-59 Ohio State

They look awfully young to me with only one junior and two seniors. I don't think these are the same guys that played last year.

This just in. Tonight's opponent will be able to field a full team after all.

We will be playing:

James Madison

With Howard and Troy off the bench.

I thought for sure George Washington would be mentioned somewhere in your starting lineup. I can't see where this thread is heading and hopefully someone will cut it off at the pass (like living and dying with the three-point shot):wink2:

I do not think that this team will present much more of a challenge then Alcorn State and whether or not that is good for next Thursday I am not sure but North Carolina has not played anyone either.

Head them off at the pass? I STILL hate that cliche!

It's part of 2K Sports Classic - Coaches vs. Cancer

These games are considered "regional" matchups before the big-name teams head to MSG

This is the strangest tournament I have ever heard of. There are sub-regional rounds and regional rounds. Then comes the finals in New York, the participants of which seem to have been picked in advance. So, even if we lost our first two games, we would still be in NY for the Championship Rounds. Curious.
