CLEVELAND STATE NOTES
  • The Vikings fell 80-78 to No. 6 West Virginia last Saturday at Goodman Arena, Wolstein Center on the CSU campus. Norris Cole had 29 points for the Vikings to lead four players in double figures. He connected on 11 of 21 shots from the field and hadded four assists and two steals.
  • ? Cole is the leading scorer for the Vikings on the season with an average of 17.3 points a game. Trevon Harmon contributes 11.3 ppg. Aaron Pogue tops the rebounders with 6.3 a contest.

Cleveland State pressed the hell out of West Virginia Saturday and forced them to a bunch of turnovers, will be interesting to see how they handle it if they come out with the same thing in this game

Some tidbits not covered above. I will be very interested in watching how Pogue has progressed since his days at Dunbar.
? Matchup to watch: Cleveland State's defense seemingly steals the ball (seventh in NCAA Division I) or gives up a basket (318th of 334 teams in field-goal percentage defense). Only two teams (Syracuse and Denver) are shooting a better percentage than Ohio State (.526). Can the Vikings make the Buckeyes turn it over before a shot goes up?

? Notable: Ohio State is ranked 17th in the media and coaches polls this week. Cleveland State has lost seven of its past eight games, the past four by nine points or less. The Vikings lost by two points at home to No. 6 West Virginia on Saturday. Cleveland State's starting lineup includes two teammates of former Ohio State player Daequan Cook at Dayton Dunbar, Norris Cole and Aaron Pogue.

? Next: at Wisconsin, 2 p.m. Dec. 31

I really hope Ohio State takes them to the woodshed. Cleveland State reminds me of Cincinnati, they both think they are Ohio State.

wtf??

Clearly you have never been to Cleveland State. Trust me, most of the students there don't even know they have a basketball team.

Their fans might not know but I was talking more about the local media coverage and the players themselves. Oh, I was born and raised in Cleveland.

So was I, and went to CSU. Never saw anything like that myself and I still check in on the CPD from time to time, mostly for Buckeyes coverage. I've never seen anything even in the same area code as what was going on down in Cinci. Do you have a link to something inflammatory? It would be a good tread for it.

From my experiance, UC alums actually think they are the best school in Ohio. They may give a wink and nod to Case, but they certainly think they are way above and beyond any other public schools. No one I ever met at CSU (and I was in a fraternity and a lab instructor, so I met a lot of students) ever thought that CSU was the best in Ohio, at pretty much anything. It was a school you could go to that allowed you to live at home while going to school, and it was a better option than Tri-C if you actually wanted to get a degree.
