Rule is that as long as any part of the player is behind the LOS and throws the ball, it's not illegal.
Same thing happened in one of our games this year.

DL getting up field too much, leaving huge running lanes. Need to get after QB but still need to protect gaps Jake can't step up in pocket and survey down the field if there is traffic with Buckeyes pushing them back and squashing the pocket.
