Because they haven't proven to belong there with big losses to bad/average teams. I would still classify them as NCs regardless. There are going to be some years where conference champs don't make it in, tis life in the CFP era

This. After everything they’ve been through, to still finish 12-1 and win the Big Ten Championship. Wow. What an accomplishment.

As much as I’d love this team to be in the playoffs, fighting for a national championship, I’m happy. You really couldn’t ask for a better ending to the season. Well done, men.

Argument doesnt hold if Notre Dame has to play Clemson in the ACC game. One of them would have to lose and it's most likely ND. Everyone else has to play an elimination game except for Notre Dame.

Imagine if we didn't have to play Purdue, we be undefeated too lol.

The only thing they have going for them is that they beat the #2 and #3 best B1G team which unfortunately is going to be enough to convince the committee to let them in.

Did Bama ever play an elimination game, one that they couldn't lose? I would say no.
