New ITA rankings, OSU remains in 4th spot nationally.
The April 26 ITA national
team rankings were released today and the Buckeyes held on to the #4 position among NCAA Div. 1 colleges.
In terms of accumulative points, tOSU trails 3rd place Texas by a little over 3 points, 75.38 to 72.18.
The Buckeye lead over 5th place USC decreased to about 1.3 points.
UVA, USC and Tennessee have all finished their regular season--UVA won the ACC tournament, Tennessee ripped through the SEC tournament without losing a point and have almost passed #1 UVA for highest ranking in the latest ITA poll.
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that tOSU can gain enough points through the upcoming Big Ten tournament to jump Texas for the #3 seed in the NCAA tournament. If Texas wins the Big 12 tournament as expected, tOSU will likely be the #4 seed for the NCAA's. It would be nice to avoid a quarterfinal vs. a #5 seed USC and a semifinal with #1 seed UVA, but if the draw is done according to design that is what will happen.
Guess you have to beat them somewhere, and sooner is as good as later.
In the April 26 ITA men's
single's rankings, Chase Buchanan improved to 9th place and Justin Kronauge jumped from 40th to 31st position. Kronauge's jump primarily came as a result of his victory over #22 ranked Moritz Baumann of Wisconsin on Sunday.
Dino Marcan dropped off the top 125 single's rankings, but Devin McCarthy and Steven Williams are still ranked at #117 and #124 respectfully.
Chase Buchanan and Dino Marcan dropped from #10 to the 15th ranked pair in the April 26th ITA
Doubles Rankings.
Following the team tournament finals May 20-24, in Athens, Georgia, the NCAA hosts a singles and doubles competition 5/25-5/31, with a draw of the top 64 individual singles' players and the top 32 double's teams.
Both Kronauge and Buchanan's placement in the ITA single's rankings should favorably place and seed them in the NCAA single's tournament. Fans would love to see these Buckeyes make a deep run against the nation's best.
Buchanan and Marcan should also receive a seed into the draw of the NCAA double's tournament.
Last year tOSU's Steven Moneke had a strong run in the single's tournament, finished his OSU career by advancing to the finals, but lost to freshman (now professional) Devin Britton of U Miss.
Britton as a senior in high school was actually ranked below fellow senior Chase Buchanan by Tennisrecruiting.net.
Go Bucks!
