Buckeyes Eye 18th Consecutive B1G Title This Weekend​

Heading into the final weekend of the regular season and No. 1 Ohio State is looking for its 18th consecutive Big Ten title. The Buckeyes are the lone undefeated team in conference play and will take Nebraska and Wisconsin on the road this weekend. A win Friday at Nebraska will clinch a share of the title and that would lead into an opportunity for an outright title on Sunday in Madison.
  • Ohio State has won 17 consecutive Big Ten regular season titles dating back to the 2006 season.
  • Friday’s match with Nebraska will be just the 15th meeting all-time between the programs. Ohio State has won all 14 previous meetings, dating back to the first meeting in 2002. The Buckeyes have surrendered just six points in those matches.
  • Nebraska enters the weekend at 15-8 overall and 4-3 in Big Ten play. The Cornhuskers have won five of their last six matches with the lone loss coming against Illinois.
  • Cornhusker interim head coach is former Ohio State All-American Peter Kobelt. Kobelt was a three-time All-American for the Buckeyes from 2011-14 and still holds the program record for doubles wins with 139.
  • Ohio State has won 33 consecutive matches vs. Wisconsin, which is its longest win-streak against any Big Ten school. Head coach Ty Tucker has never lost to Wisconsin.
  • Overall, the Buckeyes are 51-31-2 vs. the Badgers and have given up just six points in the last 13 meetings.
  • Wisconsin is having a tough year as the Badgers are 1-19 overall. The lone win came against Butler on Feb. 28.
  • The Buckeyes have a record of 25-1 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in the conference following wins last weekend over previously unbeaten Michigan and Michigan State.
  • All six Buckeyes singles players are ranked in the latest ITA Rankings. JJ Tracy and Cannon Kingsley are Nos. 16 and 17, respectively. Jack Anthrop is No. 26 and Justin Boulais is No. 28. Robert Cash checks in at No. 112 and Alexander Bernard is No. 121.
  • In doubles, there are also six Buckeye duos in the rankings. Cash and Tracy are No. 3 while Boulais and Andrew Lutschaunig are No. 24. Bernard and Tracy are at No. 49, Anthrop and Preston Stearns are No. 61 and Cash and Nakashima are No. 82. Boulais and Cash are the final team ranked No. 89.
  • JJ Tracy earned his second Big Ten Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honor for his efforts in the wins over Michigan State and Michigan last week. He went a combined 4-0 and rolled to a pair of straight-set singles wins.
  • Robert Cash is just one doubles win away from tying Nebraska interim coach Peter Kobelt and his program record 139 doubles wins.
  • Anthrop leads the team with 31 singles wins while Tracy is right on his heals with 30.
  • Tracy is tied with Blaz Rola for the ninth-most combined wins in program history. He has 119 singles wins and 96 doubles wins for a total of 215. His 119 singles wins are seventh-most in program history.

Just sayin': This team may not have a dominate #1 guy (like Kobelt, Rola, or Torpegaard, etc.) that may past teams had; however, it is (overall) the best Ohio State men's tennis team that I can remember due it's depth. They just have 6 solid single players and a couple more that contributed just in doubles. It would be great to see this team win the "outdoor championship" too. Regardless, we're sure going to miss these guys (i.e. 5th year players) next year:
