Question for the learned, if you please. Sometimes see a 7-0, 6-0 team score. Sometimes see a 4-0 team score. I get that 4-0 wins the match, but wonder how/why the match would be shortened, especially if the visitors travel a significant distance. Gotta catch a plane? Would believe (at least in my world), that the players on the bottom of the ladder would want to strut their stuff etc in a competitive situation. Sure, it might result in an L, but what the heck. These guys don't sign up to ride the pine. Thanks for clearing away the fog. Go Bucks!

I will give an answer @calibuck re match play format,
Though I certainly do not qualify as learned or even an insider, ...
My observations around format...
The choice is agreed on by coaches prior to match and depends as you surmise on rest or team travel concerns. Most players and families if given the choice will usually prefer to play out matches.

The ITA Default is Clinch/clinch and is used for tournaments or unless the conference or coaches opt for clinch/play.

Clinch/Play = Doubles stops once pt is clinched; Singles Play out even after team reaches 4 pts.

Clinch/Clinch = Doubles stops once pt decided; Singles stops once a team reaches 4pts.

Play/Play = Both will play out to a finish.

Typical big ten format is to play Clinch/Play, but any 3rd sets will use a 10 point tie breaker after singles point is decided.
sometimes Big 10 will do Clinch/Clinch, with Singles matches abandoned after 4th point is secured.

Have heard some conferences will choose Play/Play.

Gracel, very eloquent, and thanks. Coulda searched hard and long, and wouldn't have gotten such a good and concise response. I fall into the most players category, and would want to play on, as that is what these players do/want. Do have to wonder how the new 'left coast' contingent of the B10 will handle once the new schedules are formatted. Maybe a UCLA/Oregon/USC/UW will charter a smaller jet to travel east, play a match, fly to next city, play another, and then one more and then home? The costs for some of the smaller-sized teams will be horrific unless something like that works out, methinks. Again, thanks for clearing away the fog, as have always wondered why various outcomes played out. Go Bucks!
