Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

Matej Vocel hanging out at the Ty Tucker center in c’bus gets me wondering if he has another year of eligibility left

But I Would not be shocked if grad Matej Vocel is back, he may have another covid year of eligibility.
Good to be a Buckeye...

He played 3 years at Oklahoma State:

2018/2019
2019/2020
2020/2021

and 1 year at Ohio State:

2021/2022

I'm saying that he could play another year (i.e. extra year of eligibility due to COVID) if he wants to. According to this he is still in school:

Bryce Nakashima just won his opening match at the ITF Columbus 6-0, 7-6. Handful of (former) Bucks playing in this as well.

Also, his brother Brandon won the NextGen Finals tournament last week against some really talented young guys all over the world.

Re. What happened to Cannon Kingsley?
The website for ITA indicates November Ratings are determined by fall results.
Many top players skipped the ITA fall tournaments and competed in USTA or ITF pro level events.
Kingsley only played one ITA tournament this fall. Sadly in the all American he was 2 seed but lost first round, then only won 1 match in the consolation. Fall record of 1-2 didn’t earn many ranking points.
He will end up top 10 for 2023.
Love seeing what the young guns are doing at the ITF Columbus event. 6 of 8 quarter finalists have Buckeye ties with Anthrop and Bernard advancing.
Stearns/Carpico just upset #1 seed in doublesquarterfinal.

Tennis is as confusing as ever. On another note, we've downsized houses, and sold at 'moving yard sale' my ancient Bancroft rackets, a Tear-Drop being one of them. Maybe should have donated to Smithsonian....go Bucks!

I bought one of them

The ITA released their first rankings of the season, and Bucks were placed at #2.

In case you wondered (who was #1):

Defending NCAA Champions, Virginia, will start 2023 where they ended it last season, earning all 12 of the possible votes in the Jan. 4 Preseason Rankings. The Cavaliers, who won 23 straight to close out the season in 2022, return five of their six major contributors from last season and will once again lean on standouts Chris Rodesch and Inaki Montes de la Torre.

Pleasantly Surprised to see Bucks were ranked above some other very strong teams, however…
ITA has access to the UTR ratings of its scholar athletes and the Buckeyes as a team have done some serious improvement in these numbers.
According to college tennis ranks site… http://collegetennisranks.com/rankings/team/144/d1m
Bucks have the highest 81.93 UTR of any team.
What is not factored in the CTR site is the team’s individual most recent updated UTR scores…
1. Kingsley…..13.97
2. Tracey……..13.82?
3. Boulais…….13.96!!!
4. Trotter……..13.80
5. Cash…………13.64
6. Anthrop……13.43
7. Bernard…..13.43

This month, it will be a competitive practice schedule as Tucker peers over an incredibly talented roster and attempts to find the strongest line options for spring season.
Gracelhink uninformed speculation for the 2023 Buckeye single’s lineup
Based on fall results Kingsley and Tracey will almost certainly be first and second line.
Bernard’s strong summer and fall imho has raised the specter for him to challenge Trotter for the 3 line, so interchangeably Trotter/Bernard at #3 and 4.
At 5 & 6 line, Boulais is playing lights out, as is Anthrop.
Cash is the best doubles player in the NCAA. Would love to see Trotter and Cash together at #1 dubs line,
Tracey & Andrew lutschaunig had a GREAT fall in dubs play. They would make a dominant pair at #2.
Options on the 3 line … Kingsley & Boulais or Anthrop & Bernard ….
Wow! It’s so good to be a Buckeye!
