Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

Great Recruiting class for the Buckeyes as Coach Tucker received and signed 3 Blue Chip Verbal commitments for the 2019 class.
The top prize for the Buckeyes is the #3 ranked Kingsley, but Cash and Mercer will offer some serious depth in the lineup.
Overall Duke has arguably the top recruiting haul of American Seniors with 4 Blue chippers.
Not sure when schools will release info about signing International athletes.
The top international junior players are the great equalizer for colleges to be able to compete for titles.
A list of commitments is at, https://tennisrecruiting.net/list.asp?id=1199
Go Bucks!

ITA Rankings were released and TOSU was well represented.
from the official site.
Eight Buckeyes are featured in the ITA’s latest national rankings, the first set of rankings since September.
JJ Wolf is now ranked as the No. 3 player in the nation, moving up from No. 17 in the preseason list. Wolf has started the season 6-0 including five wins over nationally ranked opponents.
In October, Wolf won the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., defeating then-No.2 ranked Nuno Borges of Mississippi State in the final, 6-0, 7-6(3). Wolf did not lose a single set in Tulsa.
Coming in at No. 13 in the nation is Kyle Seelig. Seelig is 8-2 in singles so far this season and is coming off a win over No. 2 ranked Jan Zielinski at the ITA National Fall Championships last weekend.
Seelig is also ranked in doubles as part of the No. 6 doubles pairing in the nation alongside Alex Kobelt. Seelig and Kobelt are 6-3 this season and 2-0 against nationally ranked opponents.
Previously ranked No. 51 in the ITA’s preseason rankings, John McNally has moved up to No. 36 in the nation McNally is 6-3 so far with five wins over players nationally ranked.
Making his first appearance this season in the rankings, Tim Seibert comes in at No. 87 in the nation this week. Seibert is 7-3 in singles play so far and placed runner-up at the Big Ten Individual Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. in October.
In addition to Seibert, freshman James Trotter makes his first appearance in the ITA National rankings at No. 122 in the nation. Trotter has impressed so far with a 5-2 record in singles and a doubles record of 4-1. Trotter, alongside Kobelt, were victorious at the Big Ten Individual Championships, winning the doubles bracket.

The senior tandem of Hunter Tubert and Martin Joyce have moved up from the previous rankings and are now the No. 9 ranked doubles pairing in the nation. Tubert and Joyce are 8-3 this season and finished runner-up at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships last month.

Just sayin': Last year Wake Forest won the National Championship with the #4, #7, #48, and #72 singles and #21 and #38 doubles teams. (Their #4 guy is now a #1 guy; however, almost everyone else that was ranked is gone. They will still be very good this year as some "new guys" have bubbled up in the rankings.)

In 2016/2017 UVa won it with #14, #40, #91, #102, and #109 ingles; and a #17 doubles team.

This year Ohio State starts out with.....

#3 (56.8) JJ Wolf Ohio State
#13 (34.46) Kyle Seelig Ohio State
#36 (15.47) John McNally Ohio State
#87 (5.65) Tim Seibert Ohio State
#122 (3.78) James Trotter Ohio State

#6 (49.35) Kyle Seelig/Alex Kobelt Ohio State
#9 (42.22) Hunter Tubert/Martin Joyce Ohio State

If Wolf & McNally are the 3rd doubles team, I kind of like our chances for the doubles point in most duel meets:

As long as these guys are not grossly "over rated", Ohio State should be very competitive this year.

Buckeye doubles team Alex Kobelt and James Trotter won today to advance to the finals of the itf columbus futures tournament.
Strong performance in straight sets, Bucks did not get broken on serve, in fact they did not face a break point, winning the first set 7-6 in a tie breaker and the 2nd set 6-4.
They will face the duo who took down Seelig and Siebert in the other semi.

The official site released the 3 names of 2019 class blue chip signees.
Link

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The National Letter of Intent signing period was a huge success for Ohio State and Director of Tennis Ty Tucker as he signed three blue chip recruits in Cannon Kingsley, JJ Mercer and Robert Cash.
“We are so excited to announce the signings of these three student athletes,” said Tucker. “They are obviously world class student athletes from tremendous families. This is the first class that we have signed in my time that bring singles and doubles National Champions in the same class. These three guys have played in the last weekend of numerous national events. It is great to play in national events but to be able to play on the final weekend means you are in the top eight of the entire event. We look forward to all three of these guys becoming All Big Ten performers as well as Academic All-Big Ten.”
“They have been coached by some great instructors and we will help them realize their tennis and academic goals,” Tucker continued. “I couldn’t be more excited about Kingsley, Cash, and Mercer joining the Buckeyes and I have had a great time recruiting these families to Ohio State.”....

"Hugo Di Feo was a Top 20 ranked junior in the world who competed in all of the junior grand slams,” Tucker said. “We feel his skill and toughness on the court will improve our team immediately. He has played well on the professional circuit and earned some ATP points so he should be able to transition easily to the college game. I know a degree from Ohio State is very important to him and his family. The coaching staff is very excited about our future with Hugo.”

Gracelhink's projections on Single's lineup for 2015 Buckeyes:
#6 a battle between Chris Diaz/Metka, Matt Mendez, Marko Goles-Babic, Riley Reist.
#5 Kevin Metka/Chris Diaz
#4 Hunter Callahan
#3 Ralf Steinbach
#2 Herkko Polannen (a year in the Tucker development program will be huge!)
#1 Hugo Di Feo (yes he is that good)

The official site released the 3 names of 2019 class blue chip signees.

OK, are any of these 3 guys close to being in the "Hugo Di Feo class" where he could make a significant contribution (like being the #3, #4, or #5 guy) in 2019/2020 season?

Loving that old 2015 lineup projection, but missed the surprise, a late recruiting addition of torpegaard who was the anchor.
These three 2019 signees are all capable of competing as freshman.
Kingsley has the most complete game, number 3 rated American recruit in the class, and imho with development will fill the 1 line eventually.
Cash and Mercer are also capable of filling 2-5 lines with development.
Tennis recruiting site will release a 2019 class ranking, only Duke would have comparable American talent coming in.
International recruiting will be the wildcard.

Buckeyes are hosting a challenger this week at the Varsity indoor center.
Of note this money level $50k will draw pro competition in rankings from 200-1000.
Several Buckeyes received wildcards including JJWolf and former OSU grad Torpegaard,
Both Torp and Wolf have advanced to the semis and done it by upset of some quality Top seeds,
Wolf is playing so solid he double bageled the #2 seed in the round of 16.
The link has schedule, draws and live video.

Torp and Wolf swept their opponents in the semis and advanced to Sunday’s noon final at the Columbus challenger Varsity center.
Winners prize is $7200, finalist takes home $4200.
Torp eligibility and amateur status has concluded however ...
Wolf has been turning down some big prize pots which raises some concerns about temptations to soon forego his student athlete status and test the pro circuit.
