The new 75,000 square foot facility will feature six indoor courts and theater style seating for spectators behind every court as well as locker rooms and training facilities for both the men’s and women’s teams. With the facility in the middle of the Athletic District, it will provide the men’s and women’s tennis programs with a state-of-the-art practice and competition venue, offices and other spaces that will enhance the student-athlete experience. The estimated cost of the project is $21.9 million.

WOW!!!

Thanks for adding this Script.
This is will be a wonderful addition for the tennis program and the name is quite a tribute for Coach Tucker.
Amazed to think what precedent this sets, naming rights for the facility not to the financial contributor but a current coach!
Not sure how many other buildings on campus are named for a current faculty, coach or administrator?
As the article says, Tucker's contributions are noteworthy, both as a past TOSU player and now as dominant B1G coach, internationally recognized developer of tennis athletes.
This new state of the art venue will serve as an outstanding complement to the increasing image of Buckeye tennis. Anyone who follows recruiting in major sports understands how competitive are training venues and facilities to potential student athletes.
Having the best indoor facilities evens the recruiting disadvantages of schools in the upper Midwest. Southern schools can "sell" recruits the opportunity for 9-11 months of outdoor tennis. Div. 1 winter tennis season begins in January. Some warm weather schools don't compete indoors at all, except the indoor ITA. Last year OSU wasn't able to compete outdoors until April.
Future OSU athletes will spend a lot of time in this new facility and its right next to the outdoor complex and adjacent to the WHAC!

@gracelhink - will this be the best tennis center in the country when all said and done? Not sure what other programs have.

I wondered also about your question,
So Did a little research about top college indoor facilities. Word of mouth only, can’t find any polls, survey etc.
In the B1G Northwestern, Illinois and Minnesota indoor facilities are regarded as elite. Have also heard Dartmouth and Oklahoma are top of the line.
So tough to compare how these stack up to OSU facility 75,000 sq feet, $22 million with lockers, offices, and theater seat fan area.
A bit Out Dated but here is some relevant Conversation from talk tennis blog,

Buckeyes are making news not just with championships and facilities but also with recruiting.
Tucker pulls in another blue chip recruit in the class of 2019, the TRN third ranked player in his class, Conner Kingsley.
He is the ITF number 36 junior in the world, advanced to the round of 16 at both the Wimbledon juniors and US open juniors. Kingsley also partnered with Buckeye sophomore McNally to win a Rochester NY pro futures doubles title in June.

Orphan program. Non-revenue generating? No AD support? Let's be glad that football generates the revenues it does, throwing off enough cash to provide top flight facilities for the other programs. It must be tough for the other schools to beg for scraps. tOSU is also fortunate that they can attract the coaches that are teachers as well, developing the kids from being very good to really great. Tennis is one great example of that. Keep the furry ball rollin'!

the Columbus Challenger Pro tournament is being hosted at the OSU varsity indoor tennis Center this week.
The Official site gives a Recap of the Action today including impressive wins by 3 Buckeyes and a former Buckeye.

The Buckeye represented well in the opening round of the ATP Columbus Challenger. Playing on their home court at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center, three Buckeyes notched first round singles wins and a doubles team also advanced to the second round.

Recent graduate Mikael Torpegaard, who is in his first season as a professional, knocked-off No. 8 seed and world No. 217 Maverick Banes 7-6(3), 6-4. Torpegaard took advantage of his big first serve, notching 10 aces in the match.

JJ Wolf had a number of impressive wins against professional players this summer and that continued on Monday as he took down world No. 266 Jan Choinski 7-5, 6-4. That sets him up for a second round match with former teammate and good friend Torpegaard.

John McNally didn’t start his tournament until Tuesday but he looked just as good as his fellow Buckeyes as he beat former Virginia standout Ryan Shane in a closely contested match 7-6(5), 7-5. There was just one service break the entire match and it was by McNally at 6-5 in the second. He advances to face the winner of the match between David Perez Sanz and Dominik Koepfer.

Martin Joyce took the second set from No. 2 seed Peter Polansky in a tiebreak 13-11 but ultimately fell in the third set. That came one day after he and Wolf teamed to win their first round doubles match over Koepfer and Andrew Harris 6-4, 6-1. They will now take on the fourth-seeded team of Robert Galloway and Benjamin Lock in the second round.

The final Buckeye team to get underway will be McNally and Hunter Tubert. They will play on Wednesday against the No. 2 seeded team of Evan King and Hunter Reese.

In qualifying action over the weekend, Kyle Seelig took down teammate Alex Kobelt in the first round before falling in the second round. Tim Seibert and Hunter Tubert also competed in singles qualifiers on Saturday.
