Jack how long ago was it when he beat the #1 junior?
I remember him winning some tourneys when he was 15, but can't remember the victory in Miami against a junior from Columbia.
Chase was the number one rated prospect from the American class of '09, but ranked 15th internationally as a Junior (18's) at the end of 2008.
He was 20-7 in all ITF matches--vs. American competition 8-1.
This is his record in ITF matches over the last 8 months of 2008.

In the round of 16 doubles action Steven and Justin ran into a hungry team from Pepperdine.

Moneke and Kronauge bowed out of the championships with a 6-1, 6-2 loss.

Great season Justin, we will need you to rise up as the Senior leader of a young but talented team in '09-10.

Steven will be back on the court Saturday at 11 am in the quarterfinals of the single's championship.
He will be matched up with the #5 seed Bruno Agostinelli of Kentucky.
Congratulations are also in order for Steven.
By virtue of his victory in the round of 16 he will be awarded the status of ITA All - American for 2009!
This is his 3rd time to be recipient of this honor which is the most in Ohio State University history.

Moneke in a huge victory today against 5th seeded Bruno Agostinelli of Kentucky.
As the competition gets better, Steven just elevates his game.
Final scores today were 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
Congrats to tOSU's first 3 time All American and good luck tomorrow in the semis.
Go Bucks.

Now do you question me it makes me a little uncertain whether the a junior player from Columbia was ranked #1 and I want to say that happened early last fall. If the Columbia player was not ranked #1, I am positive that he was ranked #7 because that number does stick in my head. I just started following the junior circuit and that is why IM a little foggy on that match but I do remember reading it because I was very impressed that a kid from New Albany beat someone from Columbia. Now that I think about it, it is even possible that goes back to last spring because I remember asking someone about Chase and I didn't know you were around:) I also think by winning that match in Miami be very qualified to play in one of the Grand Slam junior tournaments. He also won another tournament in California a little more recently which qualified him for one of the other Grand Slam junior's events.

He won the Easter Bowl which is the 2nd best junior USTA tournament after the Hard Courts in Kalamazoo. He also just won a Futures on clay which is not supposed to be his best surface. And he's a badass because he likes to charge the net and not sit on the baseline and push. :biggrin:

Steven will play the #1 seed from Virginia in the semi finals tomorrow. Best of luck to him and he is certainly representing The Ohio State University extremely well.

My bad upon further review the kid from Virginia is unseeded in this tournament.

?I like these courts a lot and I thought I played a good match today,? Moneke said. ?I?ve played him before and I felt confident going into the third set where I was able to break it open. It?s been great this season and I?ve played consistently for most of the year. It?s an honor to be the second person to make it to the semifinals for Ohio State and hopefully I can keep it going. . . ?

Moneke, a two-time ITA All-American (?07 and ?08) will face Ole Miss freshman Devin Britton at 4 p.m. ET Monday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

?Singh is a great player who likes to be tricky against you,? Moneke said. ?I made it pretty tough on him after going up 3-0 in the third set and it?s hard to come back from being down like that. It?s been an unbelievable season for me, a dream almost. I advanced to the quarterfinals the last two seasons and I knew coming in I could be a tough matchup to face. I have to give credit to my coaches and teammates for all the support they have given me the last four years at Ohio State.?

The ninth-ranked Moneke, a native of Alten-Buseck, Germany, is now 45-4 overall this season and 23-2 in NCAA play, winning his last 22 matches. The win against Singh ties Moneke for first on the program?s all-time single season wins list with 45 set by Roger Smith (1983-1986) during the 1986 campaign. Moneke becomes the first student-athlete in program history to advance to the NCAA final after former Buckeye Ernie Fernandez (1979-82) advanced as far as the semifinals at the 1980 NCAA Singles Championship.

?Steven is a very physical player and doesn?t get too tired during a match,? [URL="http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=87783&SPID=10415&DB_OEM_ID=17300&ATCLID=1569525"]Jeremy Wurtzman[/URL], Ohio State assistant coach, said. ?His physical ability makes him more tough mentally, which gives him an advantage in a tournament like this. The courts are a little slower and Steven is able to grind down an opponent after three sets of tennis. Britton is a serving athletic freshman and is a great young player. It will be an extremely tough match tomorrow.?

Moneke, who was named to the 2009 Men?s NCAA Tennis Championship All-Tournament Team last Tuesday at No. 2 singles, now has a program-best 146 career victories in four years in the Scarlet and Gray. The entire 2009 NCAA Championships will last 12 days; Moneke will have competed in 10 of those 12 days, including nine-consecutive days of hard-court tennis.

Steven Moneke will be playing against Devin Britton of Mississippi in the finals of the NCAA single's championships at noon today. I thought I read that the match would be televised by ESPN, or one of its spinoffs, but if not Buckeye fans can watch online at;

?This is a great honor. I?ve been in the quarterfinals for the past three years now. I was pretty happy yesterday that I made it to the semifinals, because it was a first for me. I had a good start today and that has really helped me. I am pretty excited (to move on to the finals). It?s been a great four years for me so far and it couldn?t be any better. He (Virginia?s Sanam Singh) is very dangerous and tough to play. He can mix it up very well, he can do the cross shot, he can come into the net and he can slice you a lot. At the beginning, I felt like I dictated the match. He changed his whole strategy and I had some trouble getting used to that. I kept fighting and I knew that if I could get a break in the third set that I would get a chance to close it out at the end. He wanted to come to the net more and put more pressure on me, which he did very well. I actually returned pretty well at the end. I made him play. He came out with great backhand winners and great cross shots, but I kept hanging in there. I kept returning serves well which gave me a chance to pretty much break him every time. But, he was able to break me, too. We are both great returners. I am a senior and it is my last match tomorrow, so I don?t want to think about it too much. I just want to go into it with a good attitude and have a good match.?
